Protectora Modepran, in the heart of the city of Valencia, is in a state of disaster. Once home to 500 dogs and 200 cats, the floods knocked down fences, toppled buildings and demolished kennels. Even worse, all their food and medical supplies were washed away, and they are scrambling to find funds for food, medicine, clean-up operations and vital repairs.
Along the coast in Sueca, Maria’s Shelter was told to evacuate, but the team refused to leave the animals to their fate. The shelter is so badly damaged that it is virtually inaccessible – much less a safe space for animals.
Further inland, the Jadoul Foundation could not escape the storm’s destructive path. A massive mudslide toppled dog and cat kennels, leaving their 150 dogs and 50+ cats with nowhere to stay. |
