From the Uruguayan Anarchist Federation we strongly repudiate the
recent statements by Lucía Topolansky and José Mujica on the crimescommitted during the last dictatorship. Today as yesterday we reaffirm
our commitment to the defense of human rights. In relation to this, we
take an extract from a statement on the subject made some time ago but
which is still fully valid today. ---- These statements enable the
request to commute sentences and grant freedom by the Judiciary to a
group of murderers who practiced State Terrorism. These "old men" as
Mujica has said on another occasion, were capable of the greatest
atrocities and continued to act after 1985. State Terrorism that was not
only here in Uruguay, it was throughout the Southern Cone by the hand of
Plan Condor and the imperialist power United States.
We strongly reject this type of statement and the attempts to forget the
past, to equate murderers protected by the State with social fighters
and all the infamy they try to sow.
The beast must die

History of infamous people, accomplices and "amnesiacs"
"They were nights of horror. They were years of indescribable cruelty.
The system had released the beast into the arena. Humanity, respect for
life, were despicable values, only a macabre laugh resonated.
Independent thought, reflection, dignity, deserved the club or the
bullet. They spread perverse and pathological terror over the social
fabric. The most monstrous and malignant had official patent. They
wanted to build a silent, grey society, governed by four rules, immersed
in fear. They wanted to erase with a stroke of the pen values that were
the product of so many struggles of humanity and that so dignified the
human condition.
They set to work with enthusiasm. Demons, with brutal hatred, with
cowardly cruelty. They did not respect children, women, men of the
people, selfless idealists, dreamers of a better tomorrow. No, those who
appeared most were not alone. A set of dictatorships on the Continent, a
Condor Plan, a hand of imperial services, the support of economic and
political groups pushed them. There are many of these power groups that
even today, with the dirty work situation gone, continue to support the
monstrous policy developed. Consequently, they understand that these are
ways of ensuring the system of privilege. Have they used them so many
times in history? There is so much and horrible what happened, so much
that remembering it even weighs and hurts belonging to that same human
race. Or are they mutants of power? They bequeathed us those pains and
tears that cannot even produce a tear.
The accomplices of power and those who flaunt it. They put it in a
nebula. They do not want murderers and torturers to be spoken of loudly,
much less their accomplices.
We do not want to be accomplices, nor to have a watered-down or
gelatinous feeling. No. There are things that cannot be forgiven. Unless
our "soul" has atrophied.
The people, the peoples, those that the stories made by the elite and
the leaders despise, have preserved in their imagination, in the depths
of their hearts, the feeling of repugnance towards atrocities, as well
as the tender, respectful memory of all those who were victims of
barbarism. In this people, the repudiation of this world of abuse and
death has been preserved and has been growing. In the people, the social
institutions, the family members are the legitimate interlocutors; they
are exempt from calculations, they constitute the only way to achieve
true justice.
For monstrous crimes of humanity there cannot, should not be any
justification. There is none. Only the total truth could start a path.
