struggle against educational restructuring and the university police in
2021 was triggered and culminated in the occupation of the Rectorate of
the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The multi-day occupation of
the Rectorate managed to express the first and most dynamic challenge to
the Kerameos-Chrysochoidis law. From the first day, the invasion of the
security forces into the Asylum area and the orgy of repression they
indulged in with the images of brutal violence and the 36 arrests of
students and the conscious response of the people who decided to defend
the occupation in practice questioned not only the law but also the
legitimate state violence of the police. As on every day of its
existence, the Occupation itself took the struggle one step further. It
rallied all the students who wanted to fight collectively and
independently against the law, giving the wider world of the struggle
the opportunity to participate, socializing the demands throughout the
university community and beyond, and most importantly, it expressed
itself publicly and militantly with a constant presence on the streets
in every movement mobilization, significantly massifying the educational
demonstrations.

It is no coincidence that the state needed the double invasion of the
police into the asylum, the mobilization of every available cop, even
from other cities, in order to surround the entire university without
taking any action in the face of the reflexes and readiness of the
solidarity-minded people, the regular visits of former Minister of
Defense Chrysochoidis with meetings at the General Assembly of the
University of Athens, a coordinated smear campaign by the media and
institutional circles of the university, in order to evacuate the Occupy
just a few hours before its announced end by the squatters themselves.
And if the State, at dawn on March 11, when the cops with masked
features invaded the building, choosing according to their own criteria
those to arrest, thought that in this way it would avoid its
predetermined defeat, the crowd of almost 10,000 demonstrators the next
day came to seal it. That march was one of the most massive and dynamic
in recent years in Thessaloniki and demonstrated with its militancy and
determination the justice of the struggle not only of the students but
also of every social and class barrier against modern totalitarianism.

And if the state had retreated for a moment, it has regrouped and is
attacking again. The applications of the Minimum Entry Base law, the
evaluation of teachers and the criminalization of their strike, the
repressive methods against activists and the beating of demonstrators
are signs of a "rescue plan" of the state-capitalist system that unravel
the thread of preventive counter-insurgency with the upgrading of state
security forces logistically and their transformation into trained
battalions of killers. It is the next big part of educational
restructuring, namely the establishment of private universities, thus
completing the attack on the achievements of the student movement's
struggle. Soon we will be confronted with the attempted implementation
of expulsions, disciplinary measures - which have already been
attempted, but also of educational restructuring in general against the
defeats of the student movement. To resist the onslaught of modern
totalitarianism, to stand by our persecuted comrades.
