Help Vera's Mission to Save Forgotten Animals

Dear friends,

In the heart of Serbia, where the streets often echo with the silent cries of suffering animals, one woman stands as a symbol of hope and unwavering courage. Vera, a compassionate elderly woman, has devoted her life to rescuing, sheltering, and nurturing countless abandoned dogs and cats who would otherwise be left to endure unimaginable hardship. Vera’s sanctuary is more than just a place of refuge—it is a testament to the power of compassion and the profound difference one person can make when they refuse to look away.

Kangal, a massive and traumatized dog, was rescued just in time from the clutches of hunters.

Serbia faces a crisis of neglect and cruelty toward its animals. Many are chained, starving, or abandoned to fend for themselves on the streets. In some cases, animals are hunted for sport or poisoned to “cleanse” neighborhoods. Yet amidst this grim reality, Vera opens her arms to the most vulnerable. Her sanctuary currently cares for 32 dogs and 15 cats, but each day brings new challenges as more animals are discovered in dire need of help.

One of Vera’s most recent rescues highlights the incredible strength of her commitment. Kangal, a massive and disoriented dog, was found wandering the streets, traumatized and wearing a torn collar that hinted at a life of neglect. His size and strength made him a target for hunters, and it was clear that his days were numbered unless someone stepped in to save him. Vera, with her limited resources and already overburdened sanctuary, didn’t hesitate. She secured temporary accommodation for Kangal with a friend and is now working to stabilize his health and find a permanent solution for his care. Stories like Kangal’s are not rare—they are the everyday reality that Vera faces with courage and resolve.

Monkey’s Story: A Tale of Survival Against All Odds

Another testament to the impact of kindness is the story of Monkey, a resilient dog under Vera’s care. Monkey’s journey has been one of ups and downs, filled with moments of hope and worry. She was scheduled for a critical surgery on December 4th, and the days leading up to it were filled with apprehension about the procedure and the challenges of recovery. Thankfully, the surgery was successful, with most of the tumor removed. However, a small portion near her tear duct remains, requiring careful monitoring.

Donate now. Be the hope these animals need. Together, we can make a difference.

Monkey’s postoperative period included antibiotic therapy and follow-up visits to ensure her recovery. A significant milestone was reached when her stitches were removed, bringing relief and hope to all who followed her journey. Monkey’s story is one of triumph, made possible by the unwavering support of donors who stood by Vera and her mission.

Why Your Support is Vital Now

However, the sanctuary is stretched to its limits. The cost of feeding and caring for so many animals is overwhelming, and the debts for food, medical bills, and shelter maintenance are mounting rapidly. Every meal, every medical treatment, and every safe space comes at a cost. The addition of new rescues like Kangal and the ongoing care for animals like Monkey only add to the financial strain. Yet, despite these obstacles, Vera continues to press forward, refusing to turn away even a single soul in need.
