WORLD WORLDWIDE ITALY SICILY - news journal UPDATE - (en) Italy, Sicilia Libertaria #455 - Environmental protection and ecology (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

One of the essential and indispensable struggles for the entire

libertarian movement and for the entire socialist world is, without a
doubt, the one concerning environmental protection and ecology. This is
particularly true in this latest historical period, since (as we are
sadly and inexorably experiencing in these months) we truly find
ourselves at a crucial point of no return: the effects of climate change
inexorably reverberate on our own daily lives, every time we see our
territories devastated by increasingly sudden and extreme phenomena;
from very long and worrying periods of drought, to so-called "water
bombs" of enormous proportions, such as have never occurred in
Mediterranean countries.

All this is directly connected to the struggle of the anarchists, since
social liberation also passes through the total unmasking of industrial
capitalism (and its system of building profit) as the historical culprit
of this massacre, with the massive industrialization of boundless
portions of our globe, aided by the approval of authoritarian
institutions that have fomented the consolidation of this system.

For two centuries now, with coal as the protagonist in the first and oil
in the last, wealth has been almost exclusively in the hands of giants
in the energy sector, who have held (and still hold) the world hostage
by imposing prices for these raw materials; in the meantime determining
the hardest legacy to digest: the subjugation of millions of men and
women, as well as the pollution and destruction of boundless
territories, plundered and then abandoned when no longer usable.

But today the most creeping threat is given above all by the sneaky
ability of capitalism and the conniving authorities to always cunningly
sniff out the possible protests that it may suffer in this sense, in
order to always guarantee itself a ploy aimed at reconfirming and
reconsolidating its economic Empire. After all, we are talking about a
characteristic inherent in the capitalist bourgeoisie, that is, that of
knowing how to update itself to the technological and ethical
development of society, refusing to admit its own criminal actions and
saving its skin by pointing the finger at others.

From ruthless vultures, the giants of the energy market have been able
to disguise themselves very quickly as champions of the so-called
"ecological transition". This is nothing other than the new way to grab
new market shares, preparing for the transition from old fuels to a
possible imminent electric era, all without risking losing profits; and
indeed increasing them considerably. This is the case of Eni, which has
heavily promoted its subsidiary Plenitude, selling its products as if
they represented the absolute cutting edge and the testimony of the
company's greatest commitment to a sustainable economy... bullshit! With
this move Eni is doing nothing but pure greenwash: with a paltry
investment, compared to the bulk of its revenues that still come from
resources that are anything but "green", the company believes it can
wash its dirty conscience of having contributed (together with other
multinational oil companies and complicit governments) to irreversibly
destroying and polluting the Niger Delta, plundering those African
countries of their resources and ruining entire generations. But it is
also the case of all the new investments in renewable energy that come
from states intimately linked to the "sheik" oil business. Yes indeed:
the major producers of fossil fuels such as the United Arab Emirates,
Qatar or Bahrain, in recent years have begun to allocate billions to the
development of the green economy, with a view to occupying as much space
as possible in that market sector. And the reason is very simple: by
foreseeing the purely political direction of a fake "ecological
transition", at the right moment they will already be ready to guarantee
their hegemony even in the next (false) regime of "ecological
capitalism". And they will also want to be thanked for the favor done to
humanity. If you think about it, it seems like we are in front of modern
Tancredi, since "if we want everything to stay as it is, everything must
change".

Beyond the legitimate doubts about the actual ecological nature of the
European Union's choice to focus everything on electricity, a fact that
leaves enormous questions about the production and disposal of the huge
amount of batteries that will be produced, we must be on our guard
because this infamous "ecological transition" represents yet another
opportunity for capitalism to reaffirm its dominion by reproducing the
pre-existing mechanisms of exploitation of man and nature, (what's more)
with the nerve to pass it all off as a "green economy"!
