WORLD WORLDWIDE RUSSIA - news journal UPDATE - (en) Russia, Avtonom: Remembering means fighting: "Trends of Order and Chaos", episode 193 - In Memory of Markelov and Baburova (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

On January 19, many cities in Russia and abroad held events in memory of

anti-fascists killed by the Nazis. They were timed to coincide with the
day when in 2009, two neo-Nazis killed the well-known left-wing lawyer
Stanislav Markelov and the journalist and anarchist Anastasia Baburova
in the center of Moscow. Since then, annual marches have been held in
memory of them and other anti-fascists under the slogan "Remembering
means fighting!"
The anti-fascist march in Moscow was banned in 2021 under the pretext of
COVID isolation, and since then the authorities, who position themselves
as the only correct anti-fascists, have not allowed it to take place,
since they are afraid of real anti-fascists. Nevertheless, people come
to pay tribute to the murdered anti-fascists, lay flowers and light
candles. The protesters adhere to a wide range of political views, not
only anarchist, but also liberal and Marxist. As always, Nazi
provocateurs come to the protests with the aim of disrupting them, and
as always, they fail. ""

Reports can be viewed on the Committee's channel on January 19.

Nastya Baburova has a poem:
If you want to shine,
You must burn, which means you must burn out,
Rise like a star,
In order to die like a star.
So lift me up,
And I will give you four wings.

Two for you
And two for the one who died long ago.
We all need these wings.

I would also like to quote an excerpt from Stanislav Markelov's 2008
article "After Lethargic Sleep":

"And what restraining factors will there be for a country that is
initially regionally torn into prosperous and depressed parts? Our
people, awakened from their lethargic sleep, do not ask themselves such
questions yet, and the authorities are steadily leading them in the
right direction. The most offensive thing is not that they have finally
started moving, but their ideological self-deception, when either
Vlasov's "mattresses" with portraits of disgraced thieves-oligarchs, or
red banners with former blood-red dictators, or banners with imperial
rags flicker before their eyes. Not seeing a real choice, people who
have only just begun to feel at least some social stability rush between
these moldy mannequins, not knowing from which iconostasis to collect
great state values. What if society really believes in the medieval
Byzantine nonsense, long since buried in the cemetery, and with a new
economic leap raises another banner to arrange a senseless massacre a la
the First or Second World War in the 20th century? There is more than
enough anger and resentment for the humiliation of the 90s now."

Was it really a prophecy? No. Honest analysis. And despite the fact that
the same Markelov had many connections among the most numerous liberal
opposition, the liberals, as usual, completely ignored the social
problems that caused the humiliation of the 90s for a large part of the
Russian population.

Why do politicians need prison?
Alexei Navalny, the icon of most liberal oppositionists, returned to
Russia on January 17, 2021, where he was arrested while going through
passport control. On February 16, 2024, he will be killed in prison. Why
did Navalny rush back, knowing full well that he would be arrested? Why
did many Russian politicians prefer prison to exile? Because in Russia,
the people are ready to perceive only a person who suffered with him. If
someone was forced to leave and continue their activism abroad, then it
is believed that they should not say anything about Russia, since they
are not taking risks, and they allegedly have no moral right to any
analysis of what is happening within its borders. Incidentally, this is
all the more striking because Russia has had political exiles in its
history, who primarily influenced not only the opposition sentiments
within it, but even became leaders of the revolution. Perhaps the
resentment that someone is definitely better off is much stronger than
an adequate reaction.

Well, in fact, many exiles have seen their usual standard of living fall
sharply. If someone thinks that it is easy to get political asylum, find
housing, part-time work, help, then these beliefs are probably based on
the myth that abroad is definitely always and in everything better. No,
it is difficult to become a political refugee if you have no
connections. But it is possible. In any case, it is better than prison
abuse. If someone understands that their activities contradict the state
policy, then it would be a good idea to take care of a foreign passport
in advance and think about which direction to go. If the situation is
urgent and critical, then we remind you about the "Vyvozhuk" project.

And here we again come to the principles of self-organization and mutual
assistance. It is important to remember that help is needed not only by
comrades who remained in Russia, but also by those who left its borders.
Since they have to start their entire life from scratch.

Revanchism and antifa
Revanchism, which Stanislav Markelov warned about, remains extremely
attractive all over the world.  On the Avtonom website, you can read an
interview with a journalist from the Public Appeals channel with
anti-fascists who took part in blocking the rally of the far-right
Alternative for Germany party. The small town literally stood on its
ears, despite police resistance. The interview contains a lot of
interesting information about the practice of street protests in
Germany. And here is what a Belarusian anarchist who took part in them
says: "For many participants, the events in Rize became an inspiring
experience. Seeing a huge number of like-minded people from different
cities, they felt unity in the fight for justice and against the
far-right threat. The contrast between activity in Germany and passivity
in the post-Soviet countries was especially noticeable, which caused
regret and envy."

TikTok Ban
Meanwhile, in the United States, they are preparing (the text was
written before January 20 - ed.) for the inauguration of the
representative of the far-right and ultra-conservative circles, Donald
Trump. And although Trump is a very evil clown, this week it was not he
who created the most newsworthy news, but the ban on TikTok in the US,
which was supposed to come into effect on January 19, 2025. The official
reason is that the network collects data on users. Although in fact, the
same Google collects data on users, and any networks do. I came across a
repost of the text circulating among different authors, that,
supposedly, the US government was actually afraid that Americans saw
real Chinese in TikTok, and this destroyed the image of an ideological
enemy, and the biggest shock for Americans is that the Chinese live
better than them. I don't even know what to say about this, since there
are a huge number of Chinese in the US, and as for the standard of
living in China itself, it is as different as the standard of living in
Russia, and in the US itself. In fact, the whole problem with TikTok is
in the usual capitalist market. US representatives insisted that the
platform should be sold to an American company and then - no problems.
But the deal did not take place.

Trump promised to "come up with something," but for now the Americans
have to master VPN.

So all talk about freedom of access to information resources ends where
the interests of the state and businessmen influencing it arise. I may
be objected that TikTok is not so much an information resource as an
entertainment resource. And I even agree with this, but what is more
important is that it is another network connecting people around the world.

Do I have TikTok? No. I don't want to get stuck on clips. They can be
very cool.

By the way, another reason why I devoted time to this topic in the
trends is that it once again raised the discussion about freedom of
speech, democratic institutions, dictatorship and the market. It's a
pity that in these discussions people are again trying to decide
something within the framework of discussing the state and cannot jump
beyond the flags of state thinking.

What's in Rojava
Meanwhile, attacks by Turkish proxies on the stateless territories of
the Kurds continue. What will it be like to live there after the fall of
the Assad regime? Many Kurds have already faced violence and
prohibitions. The creator of the channel "Woman, Life, Freedom"
interviewed them for the publishing house "Insider".

I would also like to remind you about the channel "Anarchist:ki in
Rojava", if anyone has not subscribed yet.

Well, that's all for today! We remind you that in "Trends of Order and
Chaos" the participants of Autonomous Action and other authors give
anarchist assessments of current events. Listen to us on YouTube,
