Extermination and deportation are the two terms that best describe the
actions of the current Israeli government in the Gaza Strip and make itthe closest heir to those responsible for the Jewish Holocaust during
the Second World War. Whatever the initial pretext, the disproportion of
the Israeli reaction, the bombings and indiscriminate destruction, the
massacre of civilians, mostly children, the blockade of food and
humanitarian aid in general, the destruction of hospitals, the torture
and humiliation inflicted on the population, the plans for permanent
occupation and deportation, in reality respond to a general plan of
conquest and annexation of the Palestinian territories, with continuous
operations of ethnic cleansing, on which the State of Israel was
founded, the quintessence of the nation-state even in its most
deleterious and inhuman aspects.
The evidence of what is happening requires civil society around the
world, and anarchist militants, to take immediate action to oppose the
return of such barbarism and the militaristic and pro-Nazi ideology that
underlies it. The solidarity between states, which has so far allowed
Israel to continue to perpetrate its crimes, must be countered by
internationalist solidarity between oppressed peoples. To this end, the
many streams of protest against the extermination of Gaza that are
silenced daily by the regime's mass media should be unified in a common
strategic proposal and create, by distorting reality, that atmosphere of
generalized impotence that seems to paralyze, or fold towards
exclusively institutional and diplomatic sides - these have indeed
proven to be truly ineffective -, every activity of opposition to the
war and the government of Israel.
But there are so many mobilizations and marches around the world,
including the very recent French campaign embraced all over the world
called "March to Gaza", an invitation to march, on foot, towards Gaza to
ask for the opening of the Rafah border (border with Egypt) and the end
of the siege. At an international level, we list the important work of
BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions), a global movement that promotes
boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel for its policy of
occupation and oppression of the Palestinian people. Palestine Action:
deals with direct and non-violent actions towards Elbit Systems and
Leonardo SPA to raise public awareness on the Palestinian question and
to put pressure on Israel. International Solidarity Movement (ISM):
deals with non-violent actions and awareness to support the Palestinian
people and promote peace and justice. Al-Haq: works for the defense of
human rights and documentation of human rights violations committed by
Israel. Amnesty International - Palestine Section: focuses on
documenting human rights violations and putting pressure on Israel;
Human Rights Watch - Palestine Section does very similar work.
Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel
(PACBI): promotes the academic and cultural boycott of Israel for its
policy of occupation and oppression of the Palestinian people.
Electronic Intifada: focuses on informing and raising awareness about
the Palestinian issue. Middle East Nonviolence and Democracy (MEND):
focuses on promoting nonviolence and democracy in the Middle East
region, with a focus on the Palestinian issue. The Refusers Solidarity
Network works to support Israeli soldiers who refuse to serve in the
Occupied Territories and to promote peace and justice in Palestine.
There are also several anarchist movements that are dedicated to the
Palestinian cause and promote solidarity with the Palestinian people:
Anarchists Against the Wall (AATW): An Israeli anarchist movement that
engages in non-violent direct action against the Israeli separation wall
in the West Bank. Anarchism Without Borders: An anarchist network that
works to promote solidarity and cooperation between anarchists from
different countries, including Palestine. International Anarchist
Solidarity with Palestine: An initiative that works to promote anarchist
solidarity with the Palestinian people and organize support actions.
Anarchists for Palestine: A group that works to raise awareness of the
Palestinian issue and promote solidarity with the Palestinian people.
In Italy we have many student movements for Palestine; the Coordination
for Palestine: a network of associations and committees that deal with
awareness and mobilization on the Palestinian question; the Italian
Network for Palestine: a network of organizations and individuals that
work to promote peace and justice in Palestine; the Association for
Solidarity with the Palestinian People, which deals with awareness and
fundraising to support Palestinian communities.
Among the various relevant campaigns and organizations present in Italy
we highlight the work of the Freedom Flotilla that aims to break the
Israeli blockade on Gaza by sending humanitarian aid by sea. The First
Flotilla was the target of a heavy attack on May 31, 2010, when Israeli
commandos intercepted the flotilla, causing the death of nine Turkish
civil activists and numerous injuries. The United Nations Security
Council condemned Israel's actions, calling for a thorough
investigation. But just a few weeks ago, on May 2nd at 00.23, while it
was off the coast of Malta heading for Gaza, another vessel of the
Freedom Flotilla, the Conscience, was the target of another attack. A
form of mafia intimidation at the gates of the "fortress" Europe that
caused 4 civilian injuries and serious damage to the ship. The Freedom
Flotilla Coalition accused the Israeli forces of having targeted one of
its vessels again and responded with a new crew that will soon set sail
from Sicily to Gaza, this crew was welcomed and greeted within the
pro-Palestine demonstration that took place on Sunday May 25th in
Catania with great participation from the population.
We must take advantage of the indications provided by the mobilizations
and struggles underway at an international level, try to extend them to
our territories by involving the greatest number of people, and unify
them in a political project that aims to remove space for action and
mobility from the Israeli murderers, to make them as harmless as
possible, to press them through occupations, boycotts and sabotage;
above all to exert pressure on the various governments to immediately
close all embassies, consular offices, diplomatic and commercial
agencies of the State of Israel, to rescind contracts and agreements for
supply and economic and military exchange, to interrupt the circulation
of blood-stained Israeli goods and capital. At the same time,
independent humanitarian organizations that are trying to help and feed
the surviving inhabitants of Gaza must be strengthened.
But, alongside this and at the end of the war, it is necessary to pose
and concretely support the hypothesis of the reconstruction from below
of a strong, secular Palestinian society, finally free from the
blackmail of the Hamas torturers - mirroring the Israeli state
terrorists - and confederated with the democratic and libertarian
realities that are still emerging in the Middle Eastern region, and
within Israel itself.
