Big Week at Toots: UK Piano Stars, Belgian Jazz Royalty & Late-Night Jams

🇫🇷  🇧🇪 Cette semaine au Toots, ça balance du très très lourd, donc viens ! 🎶🔥 On commence mercredi avec la jam qui sera lancée par le maître des lieux en compagnie de Victor Foulon et Marek Patrman, toujours à prix libre, toujours aussi fun.   Jeudi, notre band de swing maison rendra hommage au roi du swing : Count Basie. C’est ce qui se fait de mieux dans le genre dans notre capitale et ils continuent leurs hommages aux maîtres des années 20 à 40 chaque mois. Rien de mieux pour figer un sourire sur votre visage pendant quelques jours. Et on en a besoin. 🕺🎼   Vendredi, Joachim Caffonnette invite pour la première fois au club un géant du jazz belge. Bert Joris, trompettiste et compositeur parmi les plus importants du pays, viendra jouer la musique de Joachim et la sienne entouré d’un groupe de haute voltige. Rare occasion de voir le maestro en club à Bruxelles. La late jam avec Mathieu DeWit, le mister piano swing des nuits bruxelloises. 🎺⭐🎹🌙   Samedi, un des meilleurs power‑trios d’Europe, « Enemy ». Un groupe immanquable qui en est à son troisième album, chez le prestigieux Edition Records. Le pianiste Kit Downes s’impose année après année comme une des grandes références du genre et c’est un plaisir de le recevoir dans notre petit club. La jam qui suit sera lancée par Oscar Georges et consorts. 🔥🎹   Le dimanche après-midi, c’est un autre super talent européen, déjà reconnu mondialement par les connaisseurs comme un des cracks du saxophone alto, Yonatan Hes, qui rendra hommage au maître Cannonball Adderley ! De quoi apprécier son dimanche après‑midi. 🎷🌇   Et enfin, pour finir sur les chapeaux de roue, après Kit Downes samedi, c’est un autre génial pianiste anglais au style diamétralement opposé mais tout aussi impressionnant que nous accueillons. Joe Webb nous vient en trio avec toute son énergie de showman, son sens du swing et sa maîtrise du stride. While he is often seen opening jam sessions or inviting Brussels-based musicians for aperitif duos, he returns here as a bandleader for a proper concert, built around his own compositions and a selection of standards he holds particularly dear. For the occasion, he is joined by long-time musical partners: drummer Armando Luongo, with whom he has shared nearly 15 years of music-making and who already featured on his debut album Simplexity (2015); New Orleans-born bassist Jasen Weaver, whom Joachim invited for the recording of Bittersweet Times (2021) and with whom he shares a deep affinity for a certain tradition of American jazz; and Mathieu Najean, whose sound breathes the history of jazz, and who has long been entrusted by Caffonnette with leading the house band of his clubs. To complete the quartet, a very special guest will appear on the Toots stage for the first time: Bert Joris. A true legend of Belgian jazz, composer, arranger, and above all a trumpeter of remarkable musicality, he stands as a major reference.
