On Toffiq’s 46th birthday: Demand his release from Guantánamo

Guantánamo: 16 Years Too Long Sign the Petition › Dear friends, Tomorrow is Toffiq al-Bihani’s 46th birthday. It’s also the 16th birthday he’s spent in the military prison at Guantánamo Bay. Toffiq al-Bihani has been cleared for transfer out of Guantánamo Bay since 2010. He has faced torture and enforced disappearance, which are crimes under international law. Toffiq al-Bihani has been stuck in Guantánamo for 16 years without charge or trial — take action now and demand his transfer. Guantánamo is an all-too-easy location for future abuses by the US government to occur, and human rights violations committed against detainees is outrageous. Toffiq has a large family in Saudi Arabia, where he was born, and the Saudi government has agreed to take him back. But the US government has inexplicably kept him locked up at Guantánamo. Take action now and demand Toffiq al-Bihani’s transfer out of Guantánamo. As a presidential candidate, Donald Trump vowed to “load Guantánamo up” and “bring back waterboarding and a hell of a lot worse.” President Trump has also insisted that “torture works.” Let’s make this the last time Toffiq spends his birthday at Guantánamo — tell the US government to transfer Toffiq from the Guantánamo detention facility now.
