Sign Now Dear friends, In a recent rape trial in Ireland, the attacker's defence made the child victim hold up the underwear she was wearing when she was raped. They implied that her choice of underwear meant she must have consented to sex with the defendant. This is extreme victim blaming. The clothing someone wears does not communicate consent to sex, whatever their outfit choice. That should be obvious to most people these days. But, in this court case, the defence lawyer was allowed to not only encourage the jury to blame the victim for the rapist's actions, but to humiliate a seventeen year old child.
