Tanzania Government: Stop the LGBTI witch-hunts now

LGBTI people in Tanzania have been subjected to growing violence, harassment and discrimination. This must stop now. Sign Now Dear friends, It's shocking that under Tanzanian law, homosexuality is illegal and a conviction can lead to 30 years or more in jail. That makes life as a LGBTQI person in Tanzania horrendous. Senior government officials recently threaten to arrest all those suspected of spreading LGBTI messages on social media. Furthermore in October, the governor of Dar es-Salaam, Paul Makonda, announced a formation of a surveillance team dedicated to hunting down gay people. Makonda has urged the public to report gay people to the authorities. This is simply unacceptable, and is why the African Equality Foundation has written this petition in support of LGBTI Tanzanians. By signing you are demanding that the Tanzanian government: End the anti-LGBTI purge Disband the anti-LGBTI hit squad Repeal the imposed colonial-era anti-gay laws Protect LGBTIs against discrimination & hate crime There is no mystery why people think they have a license to victimise the LGBTQI community, with Government leaders recently declaring they are ungodly, unnatural and mentally ill. They've also used these arguments to justify the widespread persecution of LGBTI people and the closure of 40 HIV/AIDS clinics in the country for allegedly promoting homosexuality. If you believe that this discrimination and violence must end, please sign this petition.
