It's been a very eventful year in Tamaki Makarau regarding flaxroots politics. Whether it's OurMarch, the teachers strikes, the school
climate strikes, the reclamation of Ihumatao, anti-fascist actions, Chilean solidarity demonstrations and so much more, Tamaki Makarau has
once again proven itself to be the flaxroots politics capital of Aotearoa, but you won't see Auckland Council advertising that! ----
Throughout 2019, we've been very busy here at Tamaki Makarau Anarchists. In addition to participating in the above and other actions, we
formally launched as an organisation in March with a swanky constitution and all (what? Anarchists with rules I hear you say?), had a
retreat at Kotare, helped put together the first national anarchist camp for a decade, held talks on queer radicalism, Rojava, the Zone to
Defend, community building as well as holding monthly (A)Space pop-up social centers featuring films and discussions on mental health,
decolonising anarchism, the Polynesian Panthers and more, culminating in our Anarchistmas party a few weeks ago!
We also co-organised alongside other groups the first May Day event on the left for years as well as the second and third Revolting Cafe
whole-left gatherings, an Anti-Islamophobia social centre, anti-fascist art workshop, human rights observation, self-defense workshops and a
community meeting in Sandringham as part of Tamaki Anti-Fascist Action and a talk by Tecber Ahmed Saleh as part of Western Sahara Solidarity
Aotearoa. In addition, we are currently creating an anti-sexism letter with other left groups that we hope to publish in 2020, so watch this
space! This is an exciting project that will create minimum standards of accountability for and safety from gendered violence across the
left in Tamaki.
We've also been developing links with anarchists in Indonesia and to finish off 2019, we have sent one of our members to be an observer to
the anarcho-syndicalist International Workers Association's Congress in Melbourne from 28-30 December!
We hope to take it to the next level in 2020, with an announcement due shortly for a big event at the end of March. We also look forward to
engaging in reviving syndicalist organising through the Tamaki Solidarity Network and in providing mutual aid and platforms for communities
to self-organise. We also are taking part in finally emerging much-needed housing action plans in Auckland. Finally, we are also very
hopeful, encouraged by and engaging in the increasing activity amongst tauiwi for action around honouring Te Tiriti, with 20 years to go
until the 200th anniversary of the signing.
If you love all or any of this (and how can you not?) join us for 2020 <3
Meanwhile, across the rest of the world, the 2010's end as they began, with a wave of uprisings against neoliberal capitalism in Chile,
Haiti, Sudan, Iraq, India, Ecuador, Honduras, Hong Kong, France, Northern Syria, Lebanon, Catalonia and beyond. As the social and ecological
crisis inherent to the capitalist world system intensifies in the coming years and decades, these kinds of uprisings of the workers and the
oppressed, culminating in revolution, will be necessary to abolish our present society and build a global commons for ourselves, future
generations and the Earth. Dare to struggle, dare to win!

I BEGIN with an admission: Regardless of all political and economic theories, treating of the fundamental differences between various
groups within the human race, regardless of class and race distinctions, regardless of all artificial boundary lines between woman's
rights and man's rights, I hold that there is a point where these differentiations may meet and grow into one perfect whole. ---- With
this I do not mean to propose a peace treaty. The general social antagonism which has taken hold of our entire public life today, brought
about through the force of opposing and contradictory interests, will crumble to pieces when the reorganization of our social life, based
upon the principles of economic justice, shall have become a reality.
Peace or harmony between the sexes and individuals does not necessarily depend on a superficial equalization of human beings; nor does it
call for the elimination of individual traits and peculiarities. The problem that confronts us today, and which the nearest future is to
solve, is how to be one's self and yet in oneness with others, to feel deeply with all human beings and still retain one's own
characteristic qualities. This seems to me to be the basis upon which the mass and the individual, the true democrat and the true
individuality, man and woman, can meet without antagonism and opposition. The motto should not be: Forgive one another; rather, Understand
one another. The oft-quoted sentence of Madame de Staël: "To understand everything means to forgive everything," has never particularly
appealed to me; it has the odor of the confessional; to forgive one's fellow-being conveys the idea of pharisaical superiority. To
understand one's fellow-being suffices. The admission partly represents the fundamental aspect of my views on the emancipation of woman
and its effect upon the entire sex.
Emancipation should make it possible for woman to be human in the truest sense. Everything within her that craves assertion and activity
should reach its fullest expression; all artificial barriers should be broken, and the road towards greater freedom cleared of every trace
of centuries of submission and slavery.
This was the original aim of the movement for woman's emancipation. But the results so far achieved have isolated woman and have robbed her
of the fountain springs of that happiness which is so essential to her. Merely external emancipation has made of the modern woman an
artificial being, who reminds one of the products of French arboriculture with its arabesque trees and shrubs, pyramids, wheels, and
wreaths; anything, except the forms which would be reached by the expression of her own inner qualities. Such artificially grown plants of
the female sex are to be found in large numbers, especially in the so-called intellectual sphere of our life.
Liberty and equality for woman! What hopes and aspirations these words awakened when they were first uttered by some of the noblest and
bravest souls of those days. The sun in all his light and glory was to rise upon a new world; in this world woman was to be free to direct
her own destiny--an aim certainly worthy of the great enthusiasm, courage, perseverance, and ceaseless effort of the tremendous host of
pioneer men and women, who staked everything against a world of prejudice and ignorance.
My hopes also move towards that goal, but I hold that the emancipation of woman, as interpreted and practically applied today, has failed
to reach that great end. Now, woman is confronted with the necessity of emancipating herself from emancipation, if she really desires to
be free. This may sound paradoxical, but is, nevertheless, only too true.
What has she achieved through her emancipation? Equal suffrage in a few States. Has that purified our political life, as many well-meaning
advocates predicted? Certainly not. Incidentally, it is really time that persons with plain, sound judgment should cease to talk about
corruption in politics in a boarding school tone. Corruption of politics has nothing to do with the morals, or the laxity of morals, of
various political personalities. Its cause is altogether a material one. Politics is the reflex of the business and industrial world, the
mottos of which are: "To take is more blessed than to give"; "buy cheap and sell dear"; "one soiled hand washes the other." There is no
hope even that woman, with her right to vote, will ever purify politics.
Emancipation has brought woman economic equality with man; that is, she can choose her own profession and trade; but as her past and
present physical training has not equipped her with the necessary strength to compete with man, she is often compelled to exhaust all her
energy, use up her vitality, and strain every nerve in order to reach the market value. Very few ever succeed, for it is a fact that women
teachers, doctors, lawyers, architects, and engineers are neither met with the same confidence as their male colleagues, nor receive equal
remuneration. And those that do reach that enticing equality, generally do so at the expense of their physical and psychical well-being.
As to the great mass of working girls and women, how much independence is gained if the narrowness and lack of freedom of the home is
exchanged for the narrowness and lack of freedom of the factory, sweat-shop, department store, or office? In addition is the burden which
is laid on many women of looking after a "home, sweet home" --cold, dreary, disorderly, uninviting--after a day's hard work. Glorious
independence! No wonder that hundreds of girls are so willing to accept the first offer of marriage, sick and tired of their
"independence" behind the counter, at the sewing or typewriting machine. They are just as ready to marry as girls of the middle class, who
long to throw off the yoke of parental supremacy. A so-called independence which 1eads only to earning the merest subsistence is not so
enticing, not so ideal, that one could expect woman to sacrifice everything for it. Our highly praised independence is, after all, but a
slow process of dulling and stifling woman's nature, her love instinct, and her mother instinct.
Nevertheless, the position of the working girl is far more natural and human than that of her seemingly more fortunate sister in the more
cultured professional walks of life teachers, physicians, lawyers, engineers, etc., who have to make a dignified, proper appearance, while
the inner life is growing empty and dead.
The narrowness of the existing conception of woman's independence and emancipation; the dread of love for a man who is not her social
equal; the fear that love will rob her of her freedom and independence; the horror that love or the joy of motherhood will only hinder her
in the full exercise of her profession--all these together make of the emancipated modern woman a compulsory vestal, before whom life,
with its great clarifying sorrows and its deep, entrancing joys, rolls on without touching or gripping her soul.
Emancipation, as understood by the majority of its adherents and exponents, is of too narrow a scope to permit the boundless love and
ecstasy contained in the deep emotion of the true woman, sweetheart, mother, in freedom.
The tragedy of the self-supporting or economically free woman does not lie in too many, but in too few experiences. True, she surpasses her
sister of past generations in knowledge of the world and human nature; it is just because of this that she feels deeply the lack of
life's essence, which alone can enrich the human soul, and without which the majority of women have become mere professional automatons.
That such a state of affairs was bound to come was foreseen by those who realized that, in the domain of ethics, there still remained many
decaying ruins of the time of the undisputed superiority of man; ruins that are still considered useful. And, what is more important, a
goodly number of the emancipated are unable to get along without them. Every movement that aims at the destruction of existing
institutions and the replacement thereof with something more advanced, more perfect, has followers who in theory stand for the most
radical ideas, but who, nevertheless, in their every-day practice, are like the average Philistine, feigning respectability and clamoring
for the good opinion of their opponents. There are, for example, Socialists, and even Anarchists, who stand for the idea that property is
robbery, yet who will grow indignant if anyone owe them the value of a half-dozen pins.
The same Philistine can be found in the movement for woman's emancipation. Yellow journalists and milk-and-water litterateurs have painted
pictures of the emancipated woman that make the hair of the good citizen and his dull companion stand up on end. Every member of the
woman's rights movement was pictured as a George Sand in her absolute disregard of morality. Nothing was sacred to her. She had no respect
for the ideal relation between man and woman. In short, emancipation stood only for a reckless life of lust and sin; regardless of
society, religion, and morality. The exponents of woman's rights were highly indignant at such misrepresentation, and, lacking humor, they
exerted all their energy to prove that they were not at all as bad as they were painted, but the very reverse. Of course, as long as woman
was the slave of man, she could not be good and pure, but now that she was free and independent she would prove how good she could be and
that her influence would have a purifying effect on all institutions in society. True, the movement for woman's rights has broken many old
fetters, but it has also forged new ones. The great movement of true emancipation has not met with a great race of women who could look
liberty in the face. Their narrow, Puritanical vision banished man, as a disturber and doubtful character, out of their eniotional life.
Man was not to be tolerated at any price, except perhaps as the father of a child, since a child could not very well come to life without
a father. Fortunately, the most rigid Puritans never will be strong enough to kill the innate craving for motherhood. But woman's freedom
is closely allied with man's freedom, and many of my so-called emancipated sisters seem to overlook the fact that a child born in freedom
needs the love and devotion of each human being about him, man as well as woman. Unfortunately, it is this narrow conception of human
relations that has brought about a great tragedy in the lives of the modern man and woman.
About fifteen years ago appeared a work from the pen of the brilliant Norwegian Laura Marholm, called Woman, a Character Study. She was one
of the first to call attention to the emptiness and narrowness of the existing conception of woman's emancipation, and its tragic effect
upon the inner life of woman. In her work Laura Marholm speaks of the fate of several gifted women of international fame: the genius
Eleonora Duse; the great mathematician and writer Sonya Kovalevskaia; the artist and poet nature Marie Bashkirtzeff, who died so young.
Through each description of the lives of these women of such extraordinary mentality runs a marked trail of unsatisfied craving for a full,
rounded, complete, and beautiful life, and the unrest and loneliness resulting from the lack of it. Through these masterly psychological
sketches one cannot help but see that the higher the mental development of woman, the less possible it is for her to meet a congenial mate
who will see in her, not only sex, but also the human being, the friend, the comrade and strong individuality, who cannot and ought not
lose a single trait of her character.
The average man with his self-sufficiency, his ridiculously superior airs of patronage towards the female sex, is an impossibility for
woman as depicted in the Character Study by Laura Marholm. Equally impossible for her is the man who can see in her nothing more than her
mentality and her genius, and who fails to awaken her woman nature.
A rich intellect and a fine soul are usually considered necessary attributes of a deep and beautiful personality. In the case of the modern
woman, these attributes serve as a hindrance to the complete assertion of her being. For over a hundred years the old form of marriage,
based on the Bible, "till death doth part," has been denounced as an institution that stands for the sovereignty of the man over the woman,
of her complete submission to his whims and commands, and absolute dependence on his name and support. Time and again it has been
conclusively proved that the old matrimonial relation restricted woman to the function of man's servant and the bearer of his children. And
yet we find many emancipated women who prefer marriage, with all its deficiencies, to the narrowness of an unmarried life: narrow and
unendurable because of the chains of moral and social prejudice that cramp and bind her nature.
The explanation of such inconsistency on the part of many advanced women is to be found in the fact that they never truly understood the
meaning of emancipation. They thought that all that was needed was independence from external tyrannies; the internal tyrants, far more
harmful to life and growth--ethical and social conventions--were left to take care of themselves; and they have taken care of themselves.
They seem to get along as beautifully in the heads and hearts of the most active exponents of woman's emancipation, as in the heads and
hearts of our grandmothers.
These internal tyrants, whether they be in the form of public opinion or what will mother say, or brother, father, aunt, or relative of
any sort; what will Mrs. Grundy, Mr. Comstock, the employer, the Board of Education say? All these busybodies, moral detectives, jailers of
the human spirit, what will they say? Until woman has learned to defy them all, to stand firmly on her own ground and to insist upon her
own unrestricted freedom, to listen to the voice of her nature, whether it call for life's greatest treasure, love for a man, or her most
glorious privilege, the right to give birth to a child, she cannot call herself emancipated. How many emancipated women are brave enough
to acknowledge that the voice of love is calling, wildly beating against their breasts, demanding to be heard, to be satisfied.
The French writer Jean Reibrach, in one of his novels, New Beauty, attempts to picture the ideal, beautiful, emancipated woman. This ideal
is embodied in a young girl, a physician. She talks very cleverly and wisely of how to feed infants; she is kind, and administers medicines
free to poor mothers. She converses with a young man of her acquaintance about the sanitary conditions of the future, and how various
bacilli and germs shall be exterminated by the use of stone walls and floors, and by the doing away with rugs and hangings. She is, of
course, very plainly and practically dressed, mostly in black. The young man, who, at their first meeting, was overawed by the wisdom of
his emancipated friend, gradually learns to understand her, and recognizes one fine day that he loves her. They are young, and she is kind
and beautiful, and though always in rigid attire, her appearance is softened by a spotlessly clean white collar and cuffs. One would expect
that he would tell her of his love, but he is not one to commit romantic absurdities. Poetry and the enthusiasm of love cover their
blushing faces before the pure beauty of the lady. He silences the voice of his nature, and remains correct. She, too, is always exact,
always rational, always well behaved. I fear if they had formed a union, the young man would have risked freezing to death. I must confess
that I can see nothing beautiful in this new beauty, who is as cold as the stone walls and floors she dreams of. Rather would I have the
love songs of romantic ages, rather Don Juan and Madame Venus, rather an elopement by ladder and rope on a moonlight night, followed by
the father's curse, mother's moans, and the moral comments of neighbors, than correctness and propriety measured by yardsticks. If love
does not know how to give and take without restrictions, it is not love, but a transaction that never fails to lay stress on a plus and a
minus.
The greatest shortcoming of the emancipation of the present day lies in its artificial stiffness and its narrow respectabilities, which
produce an emptiness in woman's soul that will not let her drink from the fountain of life. I once remarked that there seemed to be a
deeper relationship between the old-fashioned mother and hostess, ever on the alert for the happiness of her little ones and the comfort
of those she loved, and the truly new woman, than between the latter and her average emancipated sister. The disciples of emancipation
pure and simple declared me a heathen, fit only for the stake. Their blind zeal did not let them see that my comparison between the old
and the new was merely to prove that a goodly number of our grandmothers had more blood in their veins, far more humor and wit, and
certainly a greater amount of naturalness, kind-heartedness, and simplicity, than the majority of our emancipated professional women who
fill the colleges, halls of learning, and various offices. This does not mean a wish to return to the past, nor does it condemn woman to
her old sphere, the kitchen and the nursery.
Salvation lies in an energetic march onward towards a brighter and clearer future. We are in need of unhampered growth out of old
traditions and habits. The movement for woman's emancipation has so far made but the first step in that direction It is to be hoped that it
will gather strength to make another. The right to vote, or equal civil rights, may be good demands, but true emancipation begins neither
at the polls nor in courts. It begins in woman's soul. History tells us that every oppressed class gained true liberation from its masters
through its own efforts. It is necessary that woman learn that Iesson, that she realize that her freedom will reach as far as her power to
achieve her freedom reaches. It is, therefore, far more important for her to begin with her inner regeneration, to cut loose from the
weight of prejudices, traditions, and customs. The demand for equal rights in every vocation of life is just and fair; but, after all, the
most vital right is the right to love and be loved. Indeed, if partial emancipation is to become a complete and true emancipation of
woman, it will have to do away with the ridiculous notion that to be loved, to be sweetheart and mother, is synonymous with being slave or
subordinate. It will have to do away with the absurd notion of the dualism of the sexes, or that man and woman represent two antagonistic
worlds.
Pettiness separates; breadth unites. Let us be broad and big. Let us not overlook vital things because of the bulk of trifles confronting
us. A true conception of the relation of the sexes will not admit of conqueror and conquered; it knows of but one great thing: to give
of one's self boundlessly, in order to find one's self richer, deeper, better. That alone can fill the emptiness, and transform the
tragedy of woman's emancipation into joy, limitless joy.

OTE employees have long been campaigning for a barrage of strike action, defying the provocative statements by the administration, which
called the strike illegal and abusive. A strike that has begun since December 21, spanning the entire territory of Greece and having a long
time ahead of it, demands such as the establishment of Collective Labor Agreements, wage increases and the dismissal of any employee. ----
OTE Group, holding the leading position in technology companies, at the root of domestic entrepreneurship and stock markets, could only hold
a prominent position among modern workplaces. This group is responsible for the intensification and overexploitation of the large workforce,
accidents at work, the attempt to shut down the BSE (proposing new one-year terms), the numerous and vengeful layoffs. workers who refused
to sign their "voluntary" exit on the orders of management, employer arbitrariness and the wage cut of many workers, and these on the altar
of easy and rapid capitalist profitability.
It is worth noting that between 2012-2018 OTE's employee productivity increased by 55% at the same time as wage costs fell by the same
percentage and with the company's shareholders making public statements that their profits had more than tripled ( operating profit
increased by 88%). So it is clear that increasing bosses' profitability and demanding blood-soaked primary surpluses are intertwined with
the reshaping of labor relations, the striking of labor rights, freedoms and acquis, the devaluation of the labor force and the lack of
labor force, the lack of labor force. adherence to basic employer safety rules, criminalizing labor struggles and intimidating trade unionists.
In the context of the aforementioned situation in OTE's group, it is worth noting that a work-related accident occurred on Thursday,
December 5th. Specifically, OTE AK's field technician was accidentally found by incidents in Kolonaki (Skoufa and Marseille) in front of a
completely unconscious COFFEE. It was over half an hour unhelpful, on the ground, in one of the busiest parts of the city. But his life
would not depend on the elementary humanity of passers-by if he did not work in a one-man workshop, without a second person able to assist
him as the law of the field technicians himself explicitly calls for. He had been hospitalized for some days, with his health condition
critical, in the Intensive Care Unit at the Athens Central Clinic. The rationale for having dual carriages is simple. In a profession where
fatal accidents happen, one cannot work alone. His rationale for sending a one-stop shop is to save the company a living wage.
A few days before this aforementioned workers' accident, a worker in Koutselio Ioannina (also a one-time workshop) was injured by his fall
from a PPC column, which broke while he was working. Instead of taking over the responsibility of OTE's employer, they ordered the pillar to
disappear (not to be found by the labor inspectorate) where they replaced it with new ones! According to the official data of OTE the
reported accidents at work in 2018 were 113! A number that shows us that day by day we have an accident at work!
Many times the employees themselves shake their heads, avoiding standing up and letting their workplace testimony about the dangerous and
exhausting working conditions in front of the prospect of retaliatory dismissal. Employers are blackmailing employees that cheap labor hands
can be found easily, and they mean contracting companies such as INTRAKAT, INTRACOM, AKTOR (And it's not just the question of the one-time
workshops that the OTE Workstation recommends). The tragic downturn in the issues of protecting the health and safety of workers in the
workplace every day has been highlighted for many times. Intensification, stress of evaluation,
Real-time employee performance is monitored daily by unbearable pressure. If we take into account the fact that employees are faced daily
with furious customers who, due to the heavy workload and the tragic shortage of staff, wait weeks to serve. And in the midst of all this,
the employees must be calm and sit down and listen to the customers' insults and threats. They do not enforce labor laws, they ignore the
penalties imposed by the labor inspectorate for one-time workshops; And on 31/12/2019, 8 guards are fired.
OTE's Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Michalis Tsamaz are the chief executives. And so for the story this gentleman's salary
was € 1.48 million last year and this year it went up to € 1.62 million.
Immediate enforcement of the decision on dual carriages!
Stop Employee Threats from Dismissal and Separation from Work!
Support the strike at OTE, a strike that the media is burying systematically for fear of losing advertising!
Lifting all redundancies, signing a three-year SAA and securing jobs for all employees!

Chile: "I only know that this is not Marx. It is more like Bakunin " by Grupo Anarquista Germinal (Concepción / Chile, 04.12.2019),
presented at the demo on 21.12.2019 ---- It is now the time of neighborly and equal organizations and collectives. The government does not
understand that this is a struggle that began long before democracy returned. Because it is a struggle in which we all rose: small farmers
(pobladores), students, workers, housewives and housewives, children and adolescents who all strive for a new constitution that includes
everyone. ---- But in the end we got a constitution that is concluded at the level of the political parties, which involve none other than
themselves. In addition, they have legal agreements that benefit them and give them access to the country's great wealth through
intermediaries. As early as the late 1980s, we said that what was emerging here would be a party dictatorship; because the only way that
should be recognized and allowed to act as a proxy or to be a proxy is through the political parties.
In the 1990s, a new way of meeting and acting was developed that had questioned the authoritarian and exclusive structure of traditional
organizations. However, with the practices from the 1980s, organizations were built up that were slowly permeated by authoritarianism and a
mendacious leadership
and have been adopted (which is not to say that there is "honest" leadership or that it would be better).
However, there are still organizations whose goal remains an inclusive constitution. And it is precisely these that have deliberately no
leaders or deputies and manage to involve the entire society, which is slowly discovering its strength and solidarity in the struggle.
These disputes over the past four weeks have made it possible to demonstrate the urgent demands in an active and alarming manner. However,
they have nothing to do with the introduction of $ 30 subway tickets, but much more with the looting in which the stolen goods were returned
to the population.
Or with the dried up rivers, because of which many people cannot water their animals or pour their grain, while a single "gentleman" (señor)
can irrigate many hectares of land very well.
Like these rivers, the flow of which has returned, the population as a whole flows through the social and grassroots organizations, away
from the parties that have directed their struggles for many decades. People have taken the first steps on the road to self-determination,
have become active and speak for themselves. Their goal is fundamental change and this calls the model of radical capitalism into question.
As anarchists, we see that these protests have managed to bring about a fundamental shift in social struggles. This has turned into an
uprising that has attacked the economic symbols that support this system. This is not in crisis, but in decline. For just as the liberals
call socialism in Venezuela a system that has no more answers, so it is with Chilean liberalism, which no longer responds, because it is
built on an ideological idea that is enforced by weapons and is maintained by the indebtedness of individuals.
The people in their equal organizations and reference groups have managed to stay on the streets in the face of and despite the armed
armies. And instead of there being fewer demonstrations, they have increased and more people have joined in protest against police violence.
We think that in order to maintain barricades and inner-city protests, it is important to continue activism and organize real grassroots
meetings; so that they can discuss the course of action and use discussions to determine the direction of the fighting, together with the
areas freed from the oppression and power of the state.
There is also a draft basic income in Chile ("Chile Minimo") that we use to make progress towards a restructured society: more solidarity,
more actions and more struggles.
Let's keep fighting until all politicians are gone: everyone has to go!
Organize yourself to fight, not to lead!

Students of Sustainability is an annual environmental and social justice conference that brings together activists, students, educators and
artists from around Australia for a week of education, culture, networking, celebration, delicious food and camping. This years Students of
Sustainability will be held at the University of Sydney's Cumberland Campus, from 12 until 17 January. ---- There are two workshops on
anarchism at this year's SoS. ---- ANARCHISM 101: INTRODUCTION TO ANARCHISM ---- A workshop on anarchism, what is wrong with the world, what
a just world might look like, and how we can win it. Anarchists are for a world without rulers and bosses of all sorts. We fight against the
oppressive systems that are destroying the earth, and for a world in which the mass of people currently oppressed by capitalism take control
and plan production to fulfill human need rather than private profit.
ANARCHISM 201: THERE IS NO PARLIAMENTARY ROAD TO CLIMATE JUSTICE
A workshop about revolution, reformism, anarchism, and the climate crisis. Why do anarchists reject parliamentary politics and instead call
for revolution? What do anarchists mean by direct action? How do anarchists relate to the struggle for reforms today? Could Bernie Sanders
(and like social-democrats) deliver action on climate? What does this all mean in the context of the climate crisis? In this workshop we
will discuss what it will take to achieve the fundamental changes in the social, political and economic organisation of society that we will
need to address the climate crisis, and how we might avoid some of the pitfalls of the past.
For more information about workshop times and locations, review the Facebook event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1615838148557069/
A number of anarchist-communists will attending SoS. Anyone interesting in catching up on the sidelines can contact Kieran by SMS or Signal,

Confession of a former employee of the Detention Center for Children and Youth. The removal of children from migrants was not a short-term
affair in 2018. It has been running for decades in a less noticeable form. ---- There are more than a hundred prisons for migrant children
in the United States. The federal government hires these services from social services agencies. Officially they call it "refuge," but it's
a jail. I know this because I have been working in one of these facilities operated by the Heartland Alliance in Chicago for several years.
---- I had access to information about detention centers throughout the metropolitan area of Chicago, as well as to the national database of
children in detention, where it is easy to see how the whole system works, how children are detained, transferred between institutions,
passed on to their families how information is shared with anti-immigration, and what are the conditions for so-called 'release'.
I spent years interviewing hundreds of children. I listened to their detailed stories, talked to their parents and other relatives. I
assessed the files of hundreds of other children and separated families. I am writing this testimony to reveal the functioning of the whole
system and to prove that the Heartland Alliance, the Maryville Academy of Des Plaines and the Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago are making use
of the imprisonment of migrant children.
All the official language used in this sphere is deceptive. It gives the impression that these children have disappeared, that they have no
family, no one to look after them in the United States, and that they need government intervention to "rescue" them, "take care" of them, "
and helped them return to their family. It's not true. Most of these children have families or relatives who are desperately seeking them,
but the US government has found a way to hunt and unnecessarily detain them and tell you exactly how and why they do it.
Abandonment, separation and abduction
When children are detained by interior agents, are unable to prove their legal status, are not with their parents or an adult relative, they
will be labeled 'unaccompanied stranger'. The Homeland Security Act regulates the conditions of detention and investigation. We also have a
so-called Flores Agreement, coming from a lawsuit that has been lost. The result was an agreement and renaming of child detention to "care".
If a child is described as "unaccompanied", the child is detained and subjected to a deportation process, entrusted to the care of the
Ministry of Health and Welfare (specifically subordinate to the Refugee Resettlement Office; UPU) and taken to one of the detention centers
in the country . Sometimes they are dragged between the devices for months. Part of the "care" of social agencies is the start of the process,
My position was called "Family Reunion Specialist". In fact, my task was to investigate these children and their families. Once they were
transferred to the UPU and moved to detention where I worked, I asked them a lot of questions about their homeland, journey and the like.
Then I asked the same questions of their parents if it "fit".
Most of the children I spoke to told me that the journey was the only way to reunite with their family or relatives who had already crossed
the US border. Parents told stories of escaping poverty, hunger, violence or other forms of instability and how they were forced to leave
their children at home, because crossing borders is life-threatening. Since they could not return for them, they could not even ask to get
to them legally, they had to hire smugglers or someone else to meet them again. They also talked about how they were divided because of
United States anti-immigration legislation, which makes crossing borders with children a deadly affair. Indeed, immigration policy denies
them basic parental rights. She depicts the extreme form of violence she faces in a desperate attempt at reunion. The children I spoke to
knew exactly where their parents and loved ones are at the time they were loaded into the car's interior. In fact, they were detained
because they were desperately trying to reach their family. Children go across the border with a placard where their initials, address and
phone number of their parents stand; the larger ones remember all the important data.
However, when children are detained they are not immediately sent to their family. Instead, US government rules favor investigation and
children first subject to legal proceedings. This means that they are detained, subjected to an immigration process and imprisoned in a
facility whose location is unknown, where they remain separated from their families and relatives. Once imprisoned, they are investigated
and used as a lever, as a hostage to investigate the whole family seeking their release. In most cases, this process takes many months. At
the end, the children are still not free. When they are finally 'released', the deportation proceedings continue, which means that they must
attend the trial and endure further protracted legal proceedings to avoid deportation.
How legalized kidnapping works
So I worked at the Heartland Alliance Detention Center in Chicago as a "family reunion specialist." I consider what the authorities call
'family reunion' as criminal proceedings, kidnapping and extortion. In my experience, government intervention and social agencies are a
legalized kidnapping. Let me explain how this is done.
The child is brought to the center by car or van accompanied by anti-immigration agents. He already has a card he is carrying, the
deportation process is already underway. He / she will get basic information about where the process is and how it will work. Children come
hungry, exhausted, confused and frightened. Many are too small to understand what is happening to them or do not speak the same language as
the staff, whether they are agents, carers or health professionals.
The "welcome process", which begins with the reception and familiarization with the Order, is profoundly dehumanizing. After being trained,
they get a sign that they understand everything. The little ones make a cross. My work started with an interview during the reception, when
the child usually gives you a relative's phone number. But the rules didn't allow me to contact my parents immediately. Instead, I was asked
to keep an eye on the new arrivals and watch them for the first few hours until the disciplinary rules of the Detention Center were
clarified. Complicated paperwork, getting children to line up, ate not to talk to each other, assigning beds to them to get used to the
prescribed routine, it takes time. I could never call my parents right away. The bureaucracy usually caused the call to be made only
seventy-two hours after reception.
Children tell their stories, but all staff are suspicious of them from the beginning. Until they prove to be innocent, they treat themselves
as guilty. Everything they say is a potential lie, everything has to be verified. Who's his mom, where he is, how he got here and where he's
going. All information from children is suspected and investigated further. The official language speaks of parents and relatives as
"potential sponsors". So I should have listened to the child to get the most out of him. I finally called my relatives to verify everything.
I was never allowed to tell my parents where I was calling from, I had to question them to see if their story was the same as the child's
story, and ask to send documents and biometric data to verify identity and age. Once everything is confirmed, it continues without suspicion.
The procedure for phone calls was roughly the following. Hello, my name is Ramona (we were not allowed to reveal the last name). I'm calling
to ask you if you have a child whose name is xxx. Usually the parent responds fearfully or hesitates. They often ask who we work for. We
could reassure them but not give specific information: we have your child, he is well and there is no danger. It gave us your phone number.
I want to verify that you are his real parents.
Parents hesitate and want more information: "Where are you? Can I talk to my child? "It often happens that a child is kidnapped by a
smuggler or a mafia, sometimes even by the same person they hired to cross the border. Then they call them and demand a ransom, and the
conversation is very similar to ours. They have to give them information, pay, they can't talk to their child. "We have him, but I can't
tell you where he is," the other said.
The rules allowed me to reassure my parents, but forbidden to disclose any details, information, and we were not allowed to contact them
directly. The parents had to prove their willingness to cooperate before they could make a phone call with the child. "Is fine. I can't tell
you where he is. You can't talk to him, but if you answer my questions, if you work together, I'll help you get your child back. "During the
so-called family reunion process, the state proceeds through agencies very much like a kidnapper. Parents are never told where their child
is. They can't visit him, there are no visiting hours, they can't even call him. Instead, they are forced to provide all the information and
documents. As a "family reunion specialist," I was the Chief Investigator and all the information I got about children and their families, I
had to enter the national database, which can be accessed internally and anti-immigration. Anti-immigration cooperates directly with the
agency, regular visits and meetings are organized.
Children are forced to undergo medical examinations, compulsory instruction and the like. If the release of the child is finally approved,
he / she will call the family and tell them that they can have the child back if they pay the air tickets for him / her and his / her
escort. Tickets are very expensive, they range between $ 450-750 ($ 10,000 - $ 18,000) for one. In my experience, most children travel
southwest, not far from where they were detained, and many of the families I worked with had to pay approximately $ 1200 ($ 28,000) for one
child, or $ 1700 ($ 40,000) for two children plus escorts. As a staff, we knew that if a traveler was to go to a tourist destination, the
child was usually accompanied by a management. In particular, directors Ricardo Jonas and Thom Perry routinely traveled as escorts to
Florida and California and enjoyed a few extra days of vacation with the money of the parents of the children held at Heartland. This was
the subject of a labor complaint to the trade union and was discussed at meetings so that all staff knew about it.
Agencies speak of "family reunion" and "release", instead, children are first detained and their families cheated. Families' efforts to
reunite are sabotaged. "Okay, you get your baby, but it will be as follows. He won't be coming to you right away, we'll investigate him
first. "He will be detained and investigated and subjected to indoctrination and brainwashing during detention. He will be under constant
supervision, we will gather all information about him and you, subject him to a deportation procedure, and make money from it. In the end,
you pay the airfare and escort.
The violence does not end with release, as the lengthy deportation proceedings continue. Hundreds of thousands of children have been through
this over the past twenty years. In order to recommend the dismissal of a child, a worker must complete a folder containing hundreds of
criteria, which often change. It's bureaucratic hell. The comfort of the child is sacrificed to the bureaucratic junk. Many factors prolong
the child's detention. These may be missing documents such as birth certificate, but also typos in the folder. Problems have been solved for
months, and as detention and insecurity increase, the child's personality is falling apart.
I have found that in this crazy process the same rules do not apply to all. Privileged children can get out faster. Due to age, media
coverage, attorney-at-law, or federal authorities sometimes decide to "speed up" the procedure. The higher rank, the freer the clerk's hands
are. When they say they do it for the safety of children, I don't believe them. So many times I have witnessed a change in the rules at the
discretion of the authorities, all of a sudden there was no need for a certificate or document, and everything was speeded up.

We greet the people who are in resistance from their barricades and who share the anarchist ideal, we who believe that another world is
possible, under the principles of autonomy, self-management and mutual support, we call to be attentive, organize and defend life against
mega-projects disguised as development, which still bring death and devastation of natural resources, as well as the breakdown of community
life such as: Mayan train, wind, mining, new airport, Morelos integral project, to name a few; that drives this government, from which
different people expected a change, but in reality only changed the mask because it continues to serve the political and economic interests
of the bourgeoisie.
To all the individual and anarchist groups we invite you to resist and organize to go out together to the streets, spread and defend the
ideal of a different world, be aware of the next activities and calls that are made.
For a 2020 of organization and anarchist struggle!
We do not forget, we do not forgive!
Revenge will be anonymous!
The conflict is daily, the permanent tension against everything that exists!

"consolidates" it as the third union in Catalonia. ---- In a statement on Thursday, CGT has reported that 48% of the new registrations have
been women, representing 39% of the CGT, and that their membership has grown by ten percentage points compared to data from five years. ----
In relation to the age of the new members, the implementation of the union among workers aged 25 to 34 years, and 35 to 44 years, stands
out, section where the weight of the CGT is greater than the proportion by age of the Catalan salaried population .
The number of delegates of the CGT has grown by 14.09% for four years, a figure that the union has linked to the total rise of delegates in
Catalonia for the same period - 6.03% - to underline that it has Increased its representativeness.
In 2020, CGT is committed to "the conflict as a useful tool to advance the working class," following the wake of 2019 as a year of great

From December 28 to 30, 2019, the XXVII AIT Congress was held in Melbourne, Australia. ---- This was the first time that an IWA Congress
was held in this region and we believe it was significant in trying to reaffirm the commitment to the international struggle. This Congress
marked our expansion in the Asia-Pacific region with new Sections admitted from Indonesia (PPAS), Bangladesh (BASF) and a new Amiga
organization, the Libertarian Solidarity Front of India. A third new section was the OLS of Sweden, which changed its status as friends.
Similarly, ULET de Colombia wants to do it, but unfortunately its request was too late, but this will be treated as soon as possible. We
welcome all new colleagues to the IWA and hope that we will continue to expand in the coming years.
The Congress worked three full days but failed to reach some important discussions. These landfills should continue at the next plenary
session, which will take place in Slovakia in June 2021. The Sections discussed a number of important issues, including coordinated
international actions against non-payment of wages and labor exploitation and how to improve the discussion and process. Between Sections
The decision was made to increase our editorial work and we planned our AIT Centenary, which will take place in 2022. In that year, the
Centennial Congress will take place in Spain.
Many Sections also distributed activity reports before and during the Congress, pointing out various struggles in the workplace and other
activities. We had planned to talk more about this in Congress, but time did not allow us, but we all received copies of the Sections reports.
Almost all the Sections and Friends participated in this important Congress, anarcho-syndicalists from Australia, Austria, Bangladesh,
Brazil, Colombia, France, India, Indonesia, Norway, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom, with observers
from Australia and Aotearoa present too. We receive formal greetings from friends, anarcho-syndicalist and anarchist organizations from
Australia, Chile, USA. UU., Iraq, Kurdistan and Turkey with more greetings during the Congress.
Despite the many issues to be addressed, some of which turned out to be complicated, Congress ran smoothly and with an atmosphere of
camaraderie. The participants consider it a great success that our International takes real measures to change its base and go to areas
where it never had a presence. We look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with new ccmpañer @ s and the development of
anarcho-syndicalism in more and more countries around the world!
Long live anarcho-syndicalism!
