Dear friends, In July 2021, the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games are slated to begin in Tokyo, Japan. But today, Japan is not ready to host the Olympics as it doesn’t have any national legislation protecting lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people from discrimination. And everyone, including LGBT athletes, should be protected under the law. Japan’s government has already taken steps to protect LGBT youth in schools. The move came after Human Rights Watch released a 2016 report, The Nail That Sticks Out Gets Hammered Down, on the bullying LGBT kids endured. |
