#WORLD #WORLDWIDE #BRAZIL #News #Journal #Update - (en) fae bahia: THE TURP OF YELLOW SEPTEMBER (ca, de, it, fr, pt)[machine translation]

Started in 2015 as a tactic to prevent the growing number of suicides, the Yellow

September (from the 1st to the 31st of the month) is a time when several NGOs and
public and private initiatives are dedicated to discussing not only suicide, but
mental health of the Brazilian people. A noble initiative that, however, in its
interventions with greater media repercussions, only present solutions to combat
the symptoms, without considering that the great disease (capitalism) needs to be
challenged so that we can finally speak about the mental health of the Brazilian
people. ---- From the perspective of authors such as Fromm and Guinsberg[1], the
social environment offers individuals models of structuring and functioning of
the personality, and their subjectivity is constituted according to such models.
Looking closely at the political and social crises in Brazil in the last decade,
it is undeniable to point out that food insecurity, unemployment, parliamentary
crises, in addition to the hopelessness that hovers among young people and adults
regarding the quality of family and individual life, are extremely aggravating
factors for mental picture of the population.

In this opportunity, part of the Yellow September campaigns that invade family
environments through television and the internet do the disservice of depositing
in the individual the tools necessary to overcome depression and anxiety. Slogans
like: "You are strong"; "Try to relax"; "Meditate"; "We are together", are some
of the countless catchphrases of a white and bourgeois campaign that reinforces

For a simple example, we will use the daily lives of workers in cities like São
Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Salvador who, in addition to having shifts of more than
8 hours of work, need crowded public transport to get around, earning a minimum
wage that barely pays for transport and super inflated food and family needs. At
what point can these individuals "medit" to combat anxiety and/or depression?

A white and bourgeois "Yellow September" only serves to train the working mass
and reinforce neoliberal ideals. Decolonizing these campaigns is necessary for us
to speak from the reality of subalternized people, we need actions aimed at
combating capital and neoliberalism, the main villains in the mental health of
the Brazilian people.

Campaigns for Decent Life and Food Sovereignty; insurgent organizations of
indigenous peoples, quilombolas and sertanejos; the Web of Peoples, Reaja and
political groups such as anarchists are some of the countless existing forms of
contesting this model. Fighting capitalism and giving new meaning to work is a
powerful way to suppress the disorders that plague the population's mental
health. A strong community, with individuals fighting shoulder-to-shoulder is the
true slogan for a Yellow September.
