Real People, Real Voices

As part of September's LGBTQ Nation Heroes celebration, Jai Rodriguez sat down with real-life heroes on the front lines of healthcare to discuss surviving in a pandemic, eradicating stigma through sex education, and helping communities in need.

LGBTQ Survival in a Pandemic

The LGBTQ community was uniquely prepared for the Covid-19 pandemic, having been so affected by both HIV and AIDS over the last forty years. In this installment of the Real People, Real Voices series, Jai Rodriguez is joined by two heroes who were on the frontlines of both fights. Morris Singletary and Phill Wilson talk to us about founding organizations that strive to end the HIV and AIDS epidemic, and what lessons can be applied to Covid-19.

Ending Stigma Through Sex Education

Jai Rodriguez is joined by two educators who are doing their part to end stigma and normalize queer sex. Watch below as Tim Wang, Director of Advocacy and Policy at Chicago’s Howard Brown Health, and Alex Liu, creator of A Sexplanation, help us navigate these nuanced and complicated waters.

Helping a Community in Need

Jai Rodriguez is joined by two resilient change-makers who were able to build resources to help their local communities. Nikeisah Newton provides access to healthy food options with Meals4Heels, while Kayla Gore houses and protects Memphis' trans community with the efforts of My Sistah's House.
