On Saturday, November 20, the first congress of the Trade Union Initiative of
Workers (IP) took place in Pardubice. He was convened shortly after theappointment to meet and meet in person. ---- At the congress, basicorganizational issues were discussed, in particular the election of delegates toensure the running of the organization, the statutes were fine-tuned andapproved, and the establishment of local organizations was discussed. So far, 30members have submitted membership applications, more are expected. The congressdiscussed the problems at the workplace, the trade union movement and its limitsand possibilities, the perspectives of IP, etc. (More HERE )The Anarchist Federation sent a short collective greeting to the first congressof the IP:" First of all, we are very happy that an initiative is being created against thebackground of the anarchist movement, which wants to act especially in the socialfield with the aim of defending and expanding the rights of workers, andtherefore other non-privileged people. Such an initiative is very much lacking inour country. We are keeping our fingers crossed that this project will confirmits long-term viability, unlike previous attempts in this direction, which didnot last long.Anacho-syndicalist ideas have always occupied an important place in the modernCzech anarchist movement, but they have never been fulfilled. There were severalreasons. First, the anarchist movement that developed in the early 1990s wasquite different from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It was composed inthe vast majority of very young people, often still students, often with a verystrong connection to musical subcultures. It is no wonder, then, that more thanthe struggles of the workers at the forefront of the anarchist agenda, issuessuch as anti-militarism, squatting, anti-fascism, social ecology, etc. came tothe fore. And third, the ideological hegemony of the post-revolutionary perioddid not record the creation of a workers' movement,Nevertheless, since the early 1990s, attempts have emerged within the Czechanarchist movement such as the Anarcho-Syndicalist Initiative, later renamed theFederation and subsequently the Federation of Social Anarchists, within which theEquality Union was founded. There was also a syndicalist faction of the CSAF, asour Anarchist Federation used to be called, in which the statutes of the tradeunion were later created on the initiative of several members, thus extinguishingthe whole initiative. The next line was followed by the Solidarity group, whichdeveloped in terms of strategy and at one time initiated the movement of themembership of the existing unions. Another chapter was the creation of solidaritynetworks according to foreign models, specifically in Most and Prague. You hadpromisinglyOur organization, the Anarchist Federation, was founded in 1995 and its task isto be a communication and organizational platform for anarchists in the Czech orSlovak-speaking area. Our agenda is based on the interests and opportunities ofits members. We are part of the International of Anarchist Federations and wefocus mainly on the development and promotion of the ideas of anarchism. We donot perceive the workers' initiative as competition. On the one hand, suchthinking is foreign to us, and on the other hand, IP is a completely differenttype of organization.The anarchist federation certainly offers its cooperation in the promotion andsolution of specific struggles that IP will lead. In their opinion, theirsuccessful completion is the best promotional tool for the ideas of anarchism. Weare already trying to link to texts from IP pages on our website and we haveincluded IP pages in the recommended links on our website. We can offer a widerange of publications on anarchist history, theory and practice, as well as ourpublishing experience. Furthermore, we are able to provide secure communicationtools for both mass communication and video conferencing, or organize a workshopfor secure communication for members who are interested.It is clear to us that making the Workers' Initiative one day a relevant force indefending the rights of workers and other underprivileged sections of societywill take enormous effort, great commitment and enthusiasm, as well as greatresilience, especially to the frequent apathy of many workers. .Furthermore, it is necessary to realize that today the strength of protestmovements lies mainly in their interconnection, not merging, and mutualsolidarity. We are not only facing pressures on our employment rights, but abroad capitalist offensive, ranging from the privatization of all areas of humanlife and society to the devastating impact on the environment and climate.
