WHAT DO CHAMPAGNE MAKERS THINK OF THIS COUPLE'S ENGLISH SPARKLING WINE? WE DROVE TO FRANCE TO FIND OUT…The rise of English sparkling wine is unabated — awards and sales are piling up worldwide.
And, in the first of a new Attitude series of travelogue stories documenting LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs and craftsmen – ‘Les Artisans’ – we feature the gay-owned, West Sussex-based Digby Fine English, exponents of the winemaking art. This award-winning fizz is the brainchild of married couple Trevor Clough and Jason Humphries. The grapes are grown at their own Digby vineyard near Tonbridge, Kent, and by farmers right across the south coast of England. But we’ve not taken Digby’s commitment to the famed, traditional ‘méthode Champenoise’ as read. Instead, we’ve collected some of their finest sparkling wine and taken it to meet a fourth-generation family of winemakers in the heart of France’s actual Champagne region, for a unique celebration. And we’re travelling in style... We’re aboard automotive haute couture: DS Automobiles’ new DS 4. And we’ve crossed the Channel to the Tribaut vineyards in Hautvillers, just outside the cathedral city of Reims, where we met Valerie, grand-daughter of the founder, and asked for her expert take on Digby’s Vintage Brut and Leander Pink. What could possibly go wrong? Click view now and watch our short film to see just how that turned out… Attitude’s Les Artisans is in partnership with DS Automobiles |
