On the first weekend of August this year, at the Rozbrat squat in Poznan, the
third edition of the "Youth in the workers' movement" congress took place. Themeeting of union structures bringing together young people was an opportunity forintegration, exchange of experiences, education and discussion on actionstrategies. ---- At the moment, there are 6 committees in the EmployeeInitiative, associating mainly young people: ---- * Dolnoslaskie Kolo Mlodych OZZInicjatywa Pracowniczej, ---- * Kolo Mlodych Inicjatywa Pracowniczej Kraków, ----* Kolo Mlodych Inicjatywa Pracowniczej im. Marcel Szarego, ---- * EmployeeInitiative - Lódz, ---- * Employee Initiative - Pomerania, ---- * Warsaw YouthCircle Employee Initiative.The congress began with a short lecture on the history of the Rozbrat squat andthe local fight against developers. After the introduction, each youth structurehad the opportunity to discuss the last year of its activities. The young peopleshared their successes, but also analyzed their mistakes and failures. The firstday of the Congress ended with the screening of Sandra Godoy's film "Juanas:Courageous Women", which tells the story of Juan Rouco Bueli - one of the mainfigures of the 20th-century Argentineanarcho-syndicalism.The second day of the convention began with introducing the history of theEmployee Initiative to the young and summarizing the last years, which are theperiod of dynamic development of the union. Senior trade unionists and womenunionists also discussed the dynamics of the international trade union movement.These lectures were followed by a discussion on the bottom-up nature of theEmployee Initiative, our position towards other trade unions and the strategy ofsupporting struggles at workplaces.On the second day, participants also had the opportunity to hear first-hand aboutthe practical experience of conducting a collective dispute and organizing astrike action. In this part, short speeches were given by: Wojciech Jasinski fromOPZZ Konfederacja Pracy in Solaris (where a successful strike was successfullyconducted this year) and Milosz Krzak, a member of the IP committee at theJeremias factory, where last year employees won pay raises at the stage ofnegotiations under collective dispute. After the lecture, it was time forpractical exercises - young activists and activists took part in workshops onconducting collective disputes conducted by Marta Rozmyslowicz from the NationalCommission and Milosz from Jeremias. Finally, the day culminated in a discussionabout the education system and the practices of resistance in educationalinstitutions.On the third day, we talked about the interrelationship between exploitation andwar. We hosted Inna Geller and Zachar Popowicz from a friendly Ukrainianorganization, the Social Movement, who introduced us to the current situation ofworkers in Ukraine, the activities of trade unions in our neighbors and thedemands made by RS. Another panel on the same subject was the speech by the Bez(Misoginii, Wyzysku, Przemocy) Association entitled "Sexual exploitation duringthe war." Activists began by sketching a history of wartime sexual violence,moving on to modern-day war conflicts around the world, emphasizing Ukraine, thethreat of human trafficking, and a flourishing sex industry.What are the impressions of the young union team after the weekend? As they saythemselves:Motivation to act, satisfaction with the amount of knowledge transferred,enthusiasm and a lot of ideas. The congress also gave the opportunity to betternetwork youth committees, get to know each other and integrate.We enter September with the prospect of establishing new youth structures.
