We went to the post office this morning to show solidarity with the striking
colleagues and at the same time to try to spread criticism of the idea of a fairwage via flyers: ---- Solidarity is our weapon! ---- Ver.di demands 15% morewages for all postal workers - that is correct in view of the 8% price increasein 2022 alone and deserves support. ---- The blatant workload in the Coronaperiod and also in 2022 was fobbed off with 2 x 300 euros "bonus", while thegroup made the biggest profits of all time. The nationwide underground personnelplanning in the last year has downright guaranteed overwork and turned theeveryday work of the colleagues into a stress hell and health hazard. That thereshouldn't even be an adjustment for inflation in the new wage round is reallyoutrageous.So the sentence that appears in all of the union's calls that the 15% increase is"necessary, fair and feasible" sounds really good.But: for post-capital, in the competition of the "free market" it is necessary tokeep wages as low as possible without lowering the quality of work. Anirreconcilable contradiction to the vital interests of the workers. Thiscontradiction will never end, even if this time 8 or even 10% more wages arepaid. After the industrial dispute is always before the industrial dispute.At the same time, ver.di's slogan perpetuates the false notion that a good lifecan be had from wages - if only the wages are paid fairly. But the wholerelationship between capital and workers is based on exploitation, on the factthat we create much more value than what is paid for. And of course under statecoercion, because private ownership of the means of production (e.g. sortingmachines) is protected by the monopoly on the use of force.Ver.di says that something is only feasible if our lifetime and health aresquandered into profits for the company - no matter what we actually need forourselves and our families.
