Police: helping fossil capital protect the generation of profits. ---- In the

Czech Republic, there has been a lot of talk about the election of a president inrecent weeks, without anyone asking themselves whether we need such a person atall and whether it would not be better for power to return directly to thepeople, rather than with a religious entrusted to some careerists. This mediacurtain somewhat overshadowed what was happening with our western neighbors. Anevent that is many times more important for our future, and especially for thefuture of future generations, than who will be laughing at us from Prague Castlefor the next few years. ---- During January there was a battle for the village ofLützerath, located next to the Garzweiler lignite mine in the Rhineland. The viewfrom above could give someone the mistaken impression that it is footage from theStar Wars film series or from the movie Avatar. Giant machines biting into thelandscape and turning it into a post-apocalyptic scenery, and next to it a smallgreen island with trees and houses, defended by unarmed and underprivilegedpeople surrounded by an army of armored and armed robots, eliminating anyresistance. But make no mistake - this is the reality of the beginning of 2023.We can enjoy video footage of police robots caught in a mud trap from which theyare trying to free themselves, while comically falling again and their uniformsgradually turning brown from the cracked earth... But it is less funny when weremember what regime they have just established in this country brown uniforms, who equally had violence as the only means of their diplomacy and equallypersecuted opponents of oppression - then social, now climatic (which is veryclosely related to the social).Another dimension to the entire police rampage in Lützerath is given by the factthat it is an undisguised defense of the financial interests of fossil capital, which is driving the planet and with it all of humanity into irreversibledisaster. Instead of closing the coal mines as quickly as possible and starting afair transformation that would provide job opportunities for the affected people, another village is being demolished just so that one concern can line theirpockets as much as possible. The unscrupulous concern is RWE (operating in ourcountry under the innogy brand). Everything is then illustrated by the view ofhow the police load the detained defenders of the village into trucks marked RWE.Police in Germany demonstrated live what the police motto "help and protect"really means. Helping fossil capital protect the generation of profits againstthose who want to help all living creatures and protect the climate and livingconditions for survival on our planet. The police clearly acted as corporatesecurity here. As a result, it did not cost the company's management or itsowners anything. Her security is paid for by the state from collected taxes, andit also has a much wider field of competence when using violent methods thanexpensive private security would have. And the fact that the police did nothesitate to use these violent methods is evidenced by the number of peopleinjured by chemical weapons, fists, kicks and batons. Every broken bone on thepart of the defenders of the village, which coal capital does not value - as wellas human health and the future of future generations - is a witness to this. But it is not just a German experience. Although in the Czech Republic we lastfaced the unnecessary demolition of municipalities in 1992 in the case ofLibkovice, here too the police very often act in the interest of those who notonly exploit their employees ("human resources" in their inhuman jargon), butalso participate in deepening the climate crisis. Coal barons are also helped bythe fact that they often own the media and retain experts in creating a mediaimage in front of the public. In our country, too, police forces are vehementlyinvolved in the effort to break the climate justice movement and suppress actionsthat draw attention to the alarming fact that if we do not act, there will be noturning back and the crisis will turn into a disaster.Yes, on the side of fossil capital there are huge funds, paid politicians at theregional and national level, media ownership and a police force ready tointervene violently at any time. But that must not discourage us. There is toomuch at stake - the future of young people and future generations, dying outanimal and plant species, areas that are no longer suitable for living...The interest of corporations and their nods and minions is the recklessaccumulation of wealth. They don't care about the consequences, because theirmantra is: Profit! Profit! Profit! Fortunately, there are many ordinary peoplewho feel a sense of responsibility and are determined to stand up for the planetand all life on it. It was these people who faced the police-corporate batons inLützerath. We believe that determination will grow, despite the world of money, its media manipulations and uniformed threshers. We don't want climate change, we want system change!A3 (January 2023) download HERE. https://www.afed.cz/A3/A3-2023-01.pdfThe A3 wall newspaper is published by the Anarchist Federation every month.
