After six weeks on strike, the carers and housekeepers on strike at the company
Domidom Caen, a subsidiary of Orpéa, have finally made their boss bend! A victoryon which we must not let ourselves be lulled, and which must call for others.---- In our issue of last month, we report the strike of these employees. Thepositive outcome, for them, of the conflict is recent. We couldn't hide ourpleasure to report this victory in more detail. ---- We can say that the strikewas quick, as the duration of the conflicts tends to lengthen in the feminizedsectors. We remember in particular the twenty-two months of struggle of theworkers of the Ibis Batignolles in the Paris region. The Caen home help strikewas nonetheless harsh. The negotiations were indeed, at first, blocked. The last proposal before the agreement offered nothing more than the payment often days of strike action. However, the strikers were able to remain united anddetermined, even when some of them were forced by the economic necessity toreturn to work.9% increase for the 900 workersWhat did they get? A salary increase of 9% (including 6% for inflation), anincrease in the reimbursement of mileage expenses by 45%, and the promise forMarch 2023 of employer coverage of pensions of at least 50% and the establishmentof a packed lunch. And this for the entire subsidiary, i.e. approximately 900workers!However, we should not delude ourselves because this rapid turnaround does notfall from the sky. Indeed, they were accompanied by the CGT which they joinedduring the struggle. The agenda was busy because at the same time the union wasbusy with the professional elections at Orpéa following the cancellation of thelast ballots, the employees not having all been able to vote, or only for thehouse union "Arc- in sky ".But this first burst in this sector, union desert, did not, of course, leave thestruggle unions indifferent. The Sud Santé-Socials federation, for example, hadjust voted in the Federal Council for a campaign to strengthen mobilizationthroughout the territory. The employers have understood that acceding to thedemands as soon as possible would perhaps complicate the establishment of acontext for the rise of unionization, and would lull the unions to sleep. We must therefore consider that this victory is only a first step: to continuethe establishment of unions, to overthrow the scabs in the elections, to defeatthe boss, that is a program for the future. In any case, the Caen strikers areaware of this: this is only the beginning, they are calling to continue the fight !All the elements of this conflict demonstrate, once again, the enormous potentialfor mobilization, organization and unionization in all feminized sectors. Butthis should also raise questions about modes of trade union organization. Indeed,at the CGT level, Orpéa falls within the scope of the CGT Santé-Social Actionfederation. But the company Domidom, a subsidiary of Orpéa, which applies thecollective agreement for personal services is in the field of the CGT Commerce etservices federation.Nemo (UCL Caen)https://www.unioncommunistelibertaire.org/?Secteurs-feminises-Victoire-pour-les-aides-a-domicile-d-Orpea_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.caSPREAD THE INFORMATION
