Since 1998, the Franco-Turkish sociologist has been a victim of the arbitrariness
of Turkish justice. Having benefited from academic asylum in France, shecontinues her academic work highlighting the need for the convergence ofstruggles in the face of the intersectionality of systems of domination. ---- InJune 2022, Pinar Selek, sociologist, ecofeminist and teacher-researcher at theUniversity of the Côte d'Azur, has just had her fourth acquittal canceled and hersentence to life imprisonment confirmed by the Supreme Court of Turkey. . TheTurkish "justice" accuses him of his participation in the "pseudo attack" whichhit the Spice Market in Istanbul on July 9, 1998. An explosion left seven deadand one hundred and twenty-one injured. Although it has been shown that theexplosion was due to a gas leak, the authorities have repeatedly attributed it toa bomb planted by the PKK.Pinar Selek, who was then conducting interviews within the Kurdish community, wasarrested on July 11, 1998 by the Turkish authorities who were trying to find outthe names of the people she interviewed as part of her oral history project.Pinar refuses. He was then charged with participating in the "pseudo attack" atthe Spice Market. She is placed in preventive detention and tortured. Finally, after 36 months of imprisonment, she was released in December 2000 for lack ofevidence... but the trial is still being held. In 2006 the verdict fell, Pinarwas sentenced to life imprisonment. Since then, the judgment has been quashedfour times and Pinar has been systematically acquitted... but the Turkish powercontinues its harassment and each of her acquittals is immediately appealed bythe prosecutor. For twenty-five years now Pinar Selek has been the victim of state arbitrarinessand grotesque justice[1]. This does not prevent the researcher and activist fromcontinuing to work tirelessly to carry out her academic work and her fights, particularly feminist ones. Since her first works, Pinar Selek has questionedidentities, especially of those who are on the margins of traditional norms, inthe context of Turkish nationalism. She thus looks at the lives and struggles oftrans and transvestite people, in the fight against nationalist and policeviolence. The book based on this research (Masques, cavaliers et nanas. La rueÜlker: un lieu d'exclusion in its French translation), which has been republishedmany times in Turkey, has led to a real political awareness and the establishmentof solidarity between communities of destiny in the face of power.Fully invested in the emancipation movements, she organizes numerous meetings andanti-militarist demonstrations. In 2008 she tackled masculinity in the context ofthe authoritarian regime in Turkey, publishing Becoming a man by crawling on theconstruction of masculinity in the context of military service.Valuable work on gender and the marginsSince 2011 and his installation in France, Pinar Selek continues his tirelesswork of information and awareness. Several of his books have been translated andare now available in French: novels, essays, interview books and even stories forchildren[2].Faced with the relentlessness of the Turkish state, which seems unwilling tostop, Pinar Selek's commitment remains unshakable "I will not let go" sherepeated last January. We give our full support to Pinar and his struggles and toall the victims of the Turkish state.Muhsin (UCL Paris North-East)To validate[1]"Pinar Selek - A Ubusic Condemnation" on kedistan.net[2]To learn more about Pinar Selek and his work: pinarselek.frhttps://www.unioncommunistelibertaire.org/?Combats-de-femmes-Pinar-Selek-une-sociologue-engagee-et-condamnee-a-mort_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.caSPREAD THE INFORMATION
