WORLD WORLDWIDE SPAIN News Journal Update - (en) Spain: CNT AIT statement for 8M: Patriarchy kills, capitalism finishes off. (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

On March 8, the day of the working woman is celebrated, a historic day that

vindicates the struggle of working women in favor of equality and social justice, something that is as important to vindicate today as it was more than 150 yearsago. years, when women workers in New York garment factories organized strikesdemanding higher wages and were retaliated by the police. In Catalonia, duringthe first decades of the 20th century, the precariousness of the textile industrybrought women workers to the streets. Or like the workers in the match factoriesin London, who struggled against endless days of work, struggles that have spreadand continued to this day, when the exploitation of women continues to be theorder of the day.Currently there are still many pending issues so that half of the human racestops being in a situation of vulnerability compared to the other half, and wherethis inequality is best reflected is in the world of work. Companies are areflection of the patriarchal society, they look down on women and this isevident in the discrimination they suffer both in access to promotion and insalary. During the past year, the wage gap between men and women was 9.4% inSpain, and in the European Union as a whole, women earn 13% less per hour workedthan men, which is equivalent to approximately one month and a half salary peryear. The same occurs with the possibilities of finding a job: in the lastquarter of 2022 the number of stops in Spain increased, placing the unemploymentrate among women at 4% higher than that of men, and, in the case of women, transwomen reaching the figure of 80%.Another problem women face at work is sexual harassment. It doesn't matter if itcomes from a boss, co-worker or a client. All of this brings with it bothpsychological problems and a work environment in which the victim is forcedeither to give in at the expense of their own health or to leave their job, withthe consequent repercussions on their working, economic, and social lives.Among working-class women there aren't many other options. Either you submit to alabor market that does not care about your rights or your dignity, or you areleft unable to pay bills. You have to reconcile life between a job that exploitsand despises you, and a time that you do not have, but that forces you to alwaysbe available for the needs of those around you, with which, the days are double, those inside and those away from home. In care there is a responsibility thatmostly always falls on women. This is a reality that has a direct impact on theproblems that we have previously pointed out: they disable women from enteringthe labor market and prevent them from accessing good training that allows themto access a better-paid job. It is a vicious circle that we can only get out ofby breaking with this patriarchal and capitalist model of society that promotessocial classes and the unfair distribution of wealth. For this reason it isimportant to develop a discourse that breaks with gender inequalities, but alsowith social class inequalities. From bourgeois feminism, equality is claimed that allows women to reach the samelevel and social status as men who wield power, run companies and take charge ofthe institutions that the State uses to repress and subdue the majority of thepopulation. . We are workers and poor and from anarcho-feminism we do not seek toequate ourselves to men in the exercise of power, nor do we intend to runcompanies of the capitalist productive model, nor wear uniforms with which torepress, punish and lock up those people who remain outside the margins of thelaw. We do not want to have anything to do with the State because it is itsinstitutions that have been subjugating us for hundreds of years. This 2023 wereturn to claim 8M as the International Day of Working Women. We reject all thosediscourses put forward by unions, political parties and other organizations, which under the fallacy of "plurality" hide the adjective "worker" andpaternalistically pay homage to women for being women. In this way, saidspokespersons for power eliminate the social class component of this veryimportant day of protest that, precisely, originates from the struggles ofworking class women. That is the bourgeois strategy: not naming historicalepisodes makes them transparent, as if they had never existed, betweenforgetfulness and revisionism. Against the forgetfulness of our referents, thosewho preceded us in the fight, we raise our voice. Working women, women instruggle.  It is delusional to claim equality between men and women and not toquestion the obvious social and economic differences that exist between abusinesswoman and her workers, between successful business women and theirdomestic workers, among those who have the opportunity to access jobs that allowthem to achieve a good standard of living and those who end up in the clutches ofprecariousness, with jobs in the fields or in the hospitality industry, ordirectly excluded and criminalized as trans women or women of color. We do notwant equal opportunities to compete with men in their rotten and obsoletepatriarchal capitalist system, we simply want to destroy it in order to build amodel based on social justice and a fair distribution of work and wealth.
