Recently, the Lula-Alckimin government announced an "increase" in the minimum
wage of 18 R$ (eighteen reais). While most of the so-called "left" organizationscelebrate the triumphal "victory" of bourgeois democracy over fascism, themaintenance of the salary squeeze regime goes almost unnoticed. ---- Eighteenreais of increase is not an increase in the minimum wage! ---- A basic foodbasket in the city of São Paulo, for example, according to PROCON/SP data for2022, costs R$ 1,249.49, while the minimum wage reaches R$ 1,230.00 with thefalse increase granted by the new government. ---- The male and female workersare barely able to meet their vital food needs, let alone transportation,housing, health, education and leisure. The most affected are always the blackworking class and women workers.125 million people are food insecure. 1 million malnourished children. 9.5million unemployed and 4.3 million discouraged.Hunger plagues the masses in Brazil, one of the biggest food producers in the WORLD.According to DIEESE data, the minimum wage, to meet all basic needs, should be R$6,641.58. Therefore, we are very far from receiving the MINIMUM we deserve as aworking class, which lives from work and not from exploitation and battingprivileges, like big businessmen, bosses, bankers, landowners and politicians.If the bourgeois and reactionary governments of Michel Temer and Bolsonaropromoted a policy of brutal attacks on the rights of the working people andimposed the arrocho regime, what the Lula-Alckimin government is doing is KEEPING IT!Our class does not watch these attacks paralyzed, but it is reacting: in 2022,one thousand and sixty-seven strikes broke out in Brazil, that is 48% greaterthan 2021. The rise of strikes took place at a time of intense demobilization anddepoliticization promoted by the large trade union centrals, due to farceelectoral campaigns.The proletariat struggles, and the struggle of the proletariat, mainly theprecarious and informal ones, coming from the neighborhoods, villages, outskirtsand slums, must guide the line of revolutionary syndicalism, through combativeand anti-collaborationist tactics.It is necessary to overthrow the pedantic, electoral and reactionary unionleaderships, through classist and combative base oppositions. But not only that:it also supports and builds grassroots unions, through the SIGAs (AutonomousGeneral Unions), especially among categories that were excluded from officialunionization.Fighting for better working conditions, a real increase in the minimum wage and areduction in the working day from 8 hours to 6 hours are flags that must beraised immediately.
