The Universal National Service is in the process of being generalized in certain
departments. This system, which revives military service, will be mainlysupervised by the military and will make it possible to disseminate the values ofthe army. ---- On February 27, an article appeared in Politis, Macron againplaying the now usual technique of publishing the project in the press before itsapplication. This article describes a gradual generalization of the UniversalNational Service (SNU) from September 2023 in six departments. The generalizationcould pass either on school time or outside school time.This UNS would propel a militarization of society. One could respond to this thatgiven the absence of weapons, it is not militarization. However, the values ofthe army are still present there, starting with the instruction (rise at sixo'clock, flag, etc.), the nature of the modules (defense, internal security,"republican" values). It is easy to see how this SNU could eventually become amilitary service like any other.The UNS is the instrument of a militarized imagination. In terms of validism, forparticipants who practice handi-sport, the necessary equipment is taken fromnearby public establishments, by removing access to people with disabilities.Militarization also goes through xenophobia, racism, LGBTIphobia, and many moreoppressions, the stay taking place in an environment known for its virilism.The government intends to go from 30,000 participants to 800,000 called-ups fromsix departments.MORE MEANS FOR THE ARMYOne can also question access to this military service, which, if made compulsory,would take place in a department other than that of the conscript, at the expenseof the latter. This device, although sold as being formed by people from populareducation, teachers, or the military, it is the latter who are in the majority.The increase in the number of participants (from 30,000 in 2021 to 800,000potential conscripts) would necessarily lead to an increase in supervisory staff,explaining the number of permanent contracts that the State offersThe CDI is the main tool for recruiting non-bidasses, there should be noillusions: popular education staff and teachers will be in the minority. Theobligation on school time will surely further burden already overloaded programs.And there is of course the question of money: at a time when the governmentsmokes us with the lack of magic money, it seems quite absurd to put at least 1.5billion euros in this pseudo military service , especially in the midst of ateacher shortage. This money can be better distributed.In theory, the obligation of the UNS should require the passing of a law.
