A trainee detective attached to the Camden and Islington section of the
Metropolitan Police was dismissed in April after a conviction for sexual assault.He groped a female colleague in December 2021 when off duty in a bar. ----Earlier a woman came forward to say that she had been raped by a serving policeofficer in the Central North unit which covers Camden and Islington. The officer,Ireland Murdock, later looked up her details on a restricted police computersystem. He was sacked in July 2022 and found guilty of rape in early April. ----These cases follow the abduction, rape and murder of Sarah Everard by servingpolice officer Wayne Couzens and the revelation that serving firearms officerDavid Carrick had committed a huge number of sexual offences, 49 offencesincluding 24 rapes, making him one of the UK's most prolific sexual predators.Another officer, Adam Provan, faces charges of 8 counts of rapes against twowomen, one of them a police officer herself, and the other a 16-year old.Another former Met officer, Giles Kitchener, told a deliberate lie, a High Courtjudge concluded, after he gave evidence on racist assaults by the TerritorialSupport Group. He then joined the City of London police. He was sacked for a"joke" about the murder of Sarah Everard and other counts of gross misconductincluding homophobic and misogynistic comments. He circulated an image of a copkilling a woman on WhatsApp. He was also seen drinking beer at a police stationbefore taking charge of a domestic violence case.Another former Met cop, Sgt. Luke Thomas posted foul messages on a WhatsAppaccount, abusing Chinese people and travellers, Arabs and disabled people. Hespoke sympathetically about Nazis and child killers, and stated that another copwho had got away with rape was "a legend in my eyes". Seven other cops in a saferneighbourhoods team in Bexleyheath were involved in these abusive comments,including posting offensive videos of disabled people.In January Chief Inspector Richard Watkinson killed himself after being chargedwith conspiracy to distribute or show indecent images of children, three countsof making indecent photos of a child, voyeurism and two counts of misconduct inpublic office. Two other former cops were also charged with similar offencesrelated to the Watkinson case.Hussain Chehab, aSafer Schools officer, was jailed for five years in March overa series of child sex offences. He committed these offences before he joined the Met.The Met was forced to announce that a total of 1,633 cases of alleged sexualoffences or domestic violence involving 1,071 officers and other staff are alsobeing assessed from the last ten years to ensure suitable judgements were made.Another serving Met officer was convicted of being a member of a neo-Nazi group.Met Means Murder! Met Means Rape!The Met shows its true nature...yet againThe Metropolitan Police deployed its riot cops recently in a disturbing show offorce. A group of homeless people calling themselves the Autonomous WinterShelter (AWS) occupied the disused Sisters of Mercy convent in Shadwell, TowerHamlets, London in November 2022.The owner sent a complaint to the Met in December. They subsequently carried outan investigation. In April 2023 they sent a letter to the squatters requestingthat they leave the building.They then visited the site on many occasions but were denied entry. Forty peoplewere living at the ex-convent. On June 1st they showed up in force with a large number of cops in riot gear.29 people were dragged out of the building, with no time to collect theirbelongings, whilst others fled when they saw the riot cops. A crowd whichgathered in support were threatened with raised batons by the riot thugs.Autonomous Winter Shelter is a housing network and mutual aid initiative whichhoused the Shadwell Fire Survivors when Tower Hamlets council evicted them fromthe short term emergency accommodation provided after a horrific fire.AWS issued a statement saying: "In November 2022, we occupied the Convent ofMercy, previously residences of the Sisters of Mercy, which had laid empty forsome time. Prior to us, the neighbourhood was concerned that the historic conventwould continue to lay dormant, deteriorate and/or be converted into luxury flatsby opportunist property moguls.Over seven months, we turned it into a necessary centre for the community,hosting a pay-what-you-can cafe, shared dinners, a free-shop, workshops, films,meetings, and, primarily, shelter for the unhoused. As the heart of our smallnetwork of Autonomous Shelters, we welcomed countless vulnerable individuals andthose supportive of our cause into the space. Even at capacity, it was a place todiscuss alternative housing options in our other shelters and provide clothes,food, advice, or even just a hot beverage.The Autonomous Winter Shelter on 88 Hardinge Street stood as a stable andwelcoming beacon of the community, until, on the 30th of April 2023, a letterfrom the police made accusations that the premises were not protected underSection 144a of the LASPO law.
