Information and discussion event with the Togolese journalist and
activist Rodrigue Ahégo on September 29th, 2023 at 7 p.m. in the BlackPigeon - Scharnhorststr. 50, 44147 Dortmund. The event is organized byAfrique Europe Interact and the Anarchist Group Dortmund ----Traditionally, the military, along with other organs of repression inthe Sahel countries, has usually been an important instrument of powerfor autocracies or facade democracies there. But a paradigm shift seemsto be taking place: the military coups since 2020 in Mali, Guinea,Burkina-Faso and most recently in Niger are directed precisely againsttheir "clients". And instead of there being protests in countriesagainst the violent removal of formally elected governments, theputschists are being celebrated. These developments not only cause a lack of understanding in the"international public" dominated by the West, but also fears of apermanent shift in global power relations. We are interested in the reasons why the majority of people in therespective countries apparently welcome the military coups. What hopes do you have with it?What ideas do African activists have about whether and how militaryregimes can be transformed into truly participatory democracies in atransition process? What are the reactions in the countries in West Africa that have not(yet) been affected by coups, such as Togo?Rodrigue Ahégo is a journalist and active in the civil societyorganization "Togo Debout", which is supported by the transnationalnetwork Afrique Europe Interact, among others. At the Sahel EuropeForum, held in Madrid on July 10 and 11, he spoke on the topic "How canthe international community and regional organizations accompanymilitary transitions to democratic and transparent processes?"The room is open from 7 p.m. and the event starts at 7:15 p.m. and isscheduled to last approximately 2 hours. Nevertheless, this part ofthe world is home to a long history of resistance and the pursuit ofautonomy, be it against colonial powers, autocratic regimes, orpseudo-capitalist democracies. In order to provide information aboutautonomy and social struggles in North Africa from an indigenousperspective and to enable dialogue, there will be a presentation onOctober 5th. On the one hand, indigenous Amazigh movements, independencemovements, modern libertarianism and anti-fascism in North Africa aswell as the North African nation states on the other hand are discussedand critically examined from an anti-authoritarian and decolonialperspective. In addition, it should be looked at how liberation anddecolonization could be made possible in this region plagued byoppression but still characterized by resistance. The lecture will be given by Ilyas. He is a freelance educationalspeaker and came to the topic as a member of the Amazigh diaspora inEurope through his own engagement with the history of Kabylia and therest of North Africa. The room is open from 6 p.m. and the event starts at 6:15 p.m. and isscheduled to last approximately 2-3 hours.
