Dear friends,  In the poor community of Vrygrond, South Africa, a devastating outbreak of canine distemper virus has struck, causing severe neurological symptoms - and it is taking a toll on defenseless dogs! This highly contagious disease spreads like wildfire and leads to a slow and excruciating death. Vaccines are urgently required to bring it under control! People have minimal to no access to food, water, proper care or shelter - so Luc, you can imagine how bad it is for the animals. Together, we face and deal with heartbreaking scenes: sick and dying dogs, puppies suckling starving mothers, and dogs bearing old, untreated, infected wounds from dog fights or stab wounds inflicted by gang members in the community. Please donate now One heart-wrenching case we came across on a search and rescue mission was Nova, a four-month-old puppy.   She had mange so badly it caused a bacterial infection that made her skin rot and slough off, revealing painful, pus-filled cysts beneath necrotic flesh. The odor was unbearable, her eyes swollen shut, and she was so emaciated and weak she could not stand. Nova is also battling chronic ehrlichia, a tick-borne disease. Her sibling tragically succumbed to the same condition just one day before her rescue.
