Urgent: Demand the release of Ahmed Mansoor SHARE NOW Climate activists, As #COP28 closes, join HRW and other human rights groups in calling for the release of Ahmed Mansoor, who is unjustly imprisoned for defending human rights. The UAE, this year's host nation of the 28th annual United Nations Climate Change Conference, routinely arrests, detains, and intimidates its critics. Mansoor, recipient of the prestigious Martin Ennals Award for Human Rights Defenders in 2015, has been arbitrarily imprisoned in isolation since security forces raided his home on March 20, 2017. Mansoor was the last Emirati human rights defender still working openly in the UAE. Stand up for climate & human rights by sharing Ahmed Mansoor's story. TAKE ACTION As host of the conference, the UAE should signal its intent to facilitate an open COP28 in a free civic space by releasing Ahmed Mansoor immediately and unconditionally. Since 2011, the UAE has closed virtually all civic space in the country, with laws that criminalize peaceful expression, association, and assembly. You can help by demanding that the UAE release human defenders like Ahmed Mansoor before #COP28 ends. There is no climate justice without free expression.
