Editorial: Against capitalism
The recent elections held in the Russian Federation resulted in a
triumph for Putin and the imperialist system of which he is the
autocratic guarantor with a hegemony exercised through dictatorship,
repression and violence against all dissent. A victory which, although
announced and obtained in derogation of the most elementary principles
of bourgeois democracy, is still capable of showing off a majority of
88.48% of the consensus on a turnout of 76.52%: a true and indeed a
plebiscite, in any case intended to support the war and the war effort
following the aggression of Ukraine on 24 February 2022, which caused
immense destruction and an incalculable number of military and civilian
victims.
But the imperialist powers do not only face each other on the
battlefields of Ukraine, and the genocide that the troops of the state
of Israel are carrying out in Gaza, Palestine against the civilian
population, in response to the armed action carried out by Hamas against
Israel, an armed action that has, simultaneously and indiscriminately,
massacred defenseless civilians, is the dramatic proof of the crisis of
the capitalist order and its global structures which see partial and
area conflicts widening: the main imperialist powers are bloody facing
each other in Europe , in Asia, in the Middle East and in Africa for the
control of the world market, envisaging unprecedented scenarios also on
a military level, which also sees the re-emergence of the indiscriminate
terrorism of ISIS, such as the massacre tragically committed on 24 March
at the Crocus City Hall in Moscow proves.
Europe is also rearming itself, fearing Russian aggression: the
continuous and increasingly frequent calls from the Union and the
individual states that are part of it to prepare for war, also
envisaging the clear sending of Union troops to the battlefields of
'Ukraine; the increasingly frequent proposals for the reintroduction of
compulsory military service and the arms race; militarist propaganda in
schools of all levels with the consequent militarization of
universities; the calls for the creation of an armed force and a
European nuclear force together with the colossal supply of weapons to
the Kiev government which amounts to over 50 billion euros, constitute
only the emerging aspects of an authoritarian drift of bourgeois
democracy from whose soft underbelly arises the militarization of the
entire society.
The Russian and Ukrainian, Israeli and Palestinian proletariat and that
of every other country overwhelmed by war is called to fight to defend
not their own interests but those of the respective bourgeoisies that
clash in the global imperialist competition. For this reason: Only the
union of the international proletariat can stop the war.
Even in Italy, Giorgia Meloni's government and its social bloc of
reference are launching a very harsh attack on the living conditions of
our class: repeated cuts to healthcare and education of all levels; the
increase in exploitation in the workplace with consequent increases in
working hours and production rates; the continuous erosion of historic
conquests that allowed male and female wage earners, the women's
liberation movement and the weakest strata of our class to undertake
concrete processes of emancipation; the generalized wage emergency; the
consequent blackmail suffered by workers, especially where trade union
organization is weak or absent; the derogation and systematic evasion of
the most elementary regulations relating to safety at work, all this
creates the conditions for the accumulation of enormous profits for the
employers to the detriment of the living conditions of the subordinate
classes, who pay a very high contribution in blood every day which is
also consumed with the unstoppable chain of fatal accidents during
production. Added to this is the total disengagement in the defense of
the environment which is increasingly exposed to capitalist plunder, the
repression and criminalization of any dissent in schools, in the
workplace and in the entire society.
In this situation, the calls for institutional anti-fascism are of
little value if anti-fascism is not combined with the awareness that
war, environmental devastation, exploitation, oppression, intolerance,
the national-fascist resurgence, combined with the forms of The
insurgent racism is nothing other than the inevitable consequences of
capitalist production relations that favor the creation and accumulation
of profits to the detriment of humanity and the environment that
surrounds it.
"The old world is dying. The new one is slow to appear. And in this
chiaroscuro monsters are born." This ancient but very current phrase by
Antonio Gramsci must not remain just a prophecy but a stimulus to the
awareness of the new generations against capitalist barbarity and the
wars that characterize it, for a renewed militant commitment towards a
society free from exploitation and oppression .
