The Penn Sardin strike in Douarnenez is 100 years old. An anarchist
collective proposes to organize a large insurrectionary demonstration
clandestinely for this occasion. The date has not yet been set, but the
idea seems relevant. Indeed, the sardine production of Douarnenez today
makes it possible to link the fight against exploitation and the
environmental fight. Moreover, the history of the Cornouaille revolts
still resonates in the memory of the locals, and the local social
climate seems favorable to such an enterprise: storming the town hall of
Douarnenez (right). In addition, the geographical isolation of this city
leaves little possibility of rapid repression, the police of Douarnenez
being currently mainly busy fining parking offenders.
Discussions are currently focused on the banner which would be placed on
the front of the town hall after its storming. The first project
provided: "Fishing is like fruit, the smaller the better" which had the
advantage of linking work (fishing) to environmental problems (fruit),
but this was judged grossophobic and therefore rejected with good
reason. The second proposal was "Sardines in oil, but organic" which
again linked the two issues, but an anarcho-vegan collective rejected it
and we understand them. The proposal that seems to be unanimous is
"against small boxes that are too narrow", that of sardines of course,
but also the companies that are suffocating us, the cans that are
suffocating organic agriculture, the cramped housing of the working
classes, ... It's a very telling slogan and one that should be taken up
beyond this insurrectional demonstration.
You will have to come dressed as sardines (i.e. in black with blue
highlights, which helps you avoid being spotted, and with pseudo-fins on
your arms). We will soak ourselves in oil which will make it easier to
enter the town hall if the openings are small. We call on all our
readers to prepare for this insurrectional demonstration, we will tell
you the date in the next issue of CA (the big demonstration will be
clandestine, but given the distribution of CA, there is little chance
that it will leak beyond of our network and therefore that general
information is informed before the date).
