WORLD WORLDWIDE EUROPE GERMANY - news journal UPDATE - (en) Germany, FDA-IFA: Day X: Demonstrations to announce the verdict in the G20 Rondenbarg trial in Hamburg and Karlsruhe (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Defend freedom of assembly! ---- Acquittal for the defendants in the G20
Rondenbarg trial! ---- Discontinuation of the proceedings in Leipzig and
Lützerath! ---- Since January, a court case has been underway before the
Hamburg Regional Court in connection with the G20 protests in Hamburg.
In 2017, a demonstration in the street "Rondenbarg" was surrounded and
broken up by the police. Eleven demonstrators were seriously injured, no
officers were harmed. Nevertheless, it is not the police officers
responsible who are now on trial, but the demonstrators.

The proceedings threaten the fundamental right to freedom of assembly:
none of the 86 defendants are accused of an individual crime, and their
mere presence at the demonstration is said to be enough for a
conviction. The fact that demonstrators wore black clothing is to be
used to construct "support for violent offenders". This would
increasingly establish collective punishments against demonstrators as
the norm. The mere possibility of ending up in court for simply
participating in a demonstration can already deter people from taking
part in gatherings at all.

There are already comparable, collective accusations: against 1,300
anti-fascists who were surrounded for up to eleven hours at the
anti-repression demonstration in Leipzig on June 3, 2023 following the
verdict in the Antifa East case. All of them are under investigation for
breach of the peace in a particularly serious case. Climate activists
who demonstrated for climate justice in Lützerath are also being
investigated for serious breach of the peace due to their participation
in a demonstration. In Baden-Württemberg, investigations are currently
being carried out against 167 participants in the revolutionary May 1st
demonstration in Stuttgart, who are accused of breach of the peace
following a police attack.

The outcome of the Rondenbarg case will also have a significant impact
on the other cases; a conviction would be a dangerous breach of the dam.
Right now, in times of war, climate crisis and right-wing agitation, we
need many courageous people who use their right to freedom of assembly
decisively and in a variety of ways.

Come to the demonstration on Day X in Hamburg, where the Rondenbarg
trial is currently taking place, and in Karlsruhe, where the Federal
Court of Justice is located, which will rule on an appeal. Day X is the
Saturday before the verdict is announced in the Rondenbarg trial. For
freedom of assembly and resistant protest!
