WORLD WORLDWIDE EUROPE GREECE - news journal UPDATE - (en) Greece, Protaanka:Text shared on Kyriaki Griva's femicide in the context of interventions in Agios Anargyros (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

It may have been 1.5 months since Kyriaki Griva's femicide, but her
neighborhood has not and will not forget her. Just as she will not
forget the patriarchy that killed her, the state that turned its back on
her murder, but also the local municipal authority, which a few weeks
before Sunday lost her life, was smugly cheering itself for increasing
the police presence in the Agios Anargyros, after a summit meeting
between Tsirbas and Chrysochoidis. ---- For all this, we did not stop
intervening in the area and in the neighborhood of Kyriaki, at the time
when a new femicide, of the 40-year-old Enkeleida, took place a few
kilometers away from us, in Menidi.

The following is the text shared in the context of our relevant
interventions in Agios Anargyros.

FOR THE FEMALE MIDE OF THE SUNDAY GRIVA OUTSIDE THE A.T. AGION ARANGYRON

In the early hours of April 1st, 28-year-old Kyriaki Griva from
Agioanargyrot was fatally stabbed by her ex-partner, in front of the
dispassionate gaze of the local police officers. She herself had
resorted there to denounce and prevent her upcoming murder, having
realized that her femicide executioner was watching her. Her address to
the state enforcement agencies resulted in the derision and indifference
of both the salaried uniforms of the area and the direct action
operator, who informed her in the usual arrogant police style that "the
patrol car is not cab". A few minutes later Sunday lost her life.
Another femicide was taking place and another police-state crime was
being committed.

The femicide in Agioi Anargyros was not the first and, unfortunately, it
will not be the last either. The "shock" and social sadness of the first
days and weeks will soon be replaced by oblivion, at least for the
majority. However, the transient "shock" that accompanies the horrific
news and is later replaced by "flowing life" and "crude everyday life",
leaves some conclusions. It is the content of these conclusions that
determines the degree of social and personal awareness. In simple words,
how wise we have become, what we have understood, how what we have
achieved will turn into action and attitude towards brutality, in this
case, the brutality of femicides, patriarchal violence, police brutality.

PATRIARCHY ALWAYS ARMS THE HANDS OF FEMALE KILLERS

The unilateral recruitment of women under the status of "mother",
"woman", "chick" did not cease to survive. The notion that a woman can
live and exist, only under these qualities, separated from the universal
characteristics that define her, as well as only, under the shadow of a
man, stands before us and we are called to face it. Because it is
precisely these perceptions and attitudes that have multiplied femicides
in recent years. The roots of patriarchy are deep in the centuries and
the exit of women from it activates the dark instincts that want it
"under" and cannot "tolerate" women's liberation from patriarchal roles.
Behind every femicide is a "betrayed" masculinity, a construction of the
same value system. A masculinity that cannot accept that woman can exist
outside of him, autonomously and independently. And this is how he acts:
he abuses her when she does not submit, he murders her when he judges
that he is losing his total control over her, he rapes her.

WHY femicide?

From time to time there comes, with convenient is the truth about the
system of terms, a discussion about the term "femicide". On the one
hand, parties of the left and rights organizations are asking for the
legal recognition of the term, as if this would solve the problem. Of
course, the only thing they achieve, by declaring their honesty and
trust in civil justice and the state, all of them, over time, is to
strengthen it. On the other hand, all kinds of extreme right-wingers and
apologists for abusers, rapists and murderers, causing confusion for
those who really do not understand or consider the term unnecessary,
identify it generally and vaguely with the "murder of a woman".

Femicide certainly does not mean "murdering a woman". On the contrary,
it is the murder that is done on the basis of gender motivation. Killing
a woman because of her gender and no other reason. A womanizer is
someone who kills a woman because he considers her his property, because
e.g. she "left him" or because she considered that with her a or b act
she "insulted" his manhood. The concept of femicide is socially
ingrained and highly testable.

SHATTERING PATRIARCHY, GENDER VIOLENCE AND INEQUALITY

The struggle for complete women's emancipation is a daily, multifaceted
and multifaceted social, class and political struggle. It is not a
battle of "sex against sex," a so-called "combat" pitting gender
characteristics and women against men. Patriarchal division and
inequality between genders and sexuality are not natural but social and
class in origin. They are artificial divisions, a creation of class
societies that were founded centuries ago and are maintained over the
years and inherited with different characteristics from society to
society. They will disappear, when the causes that give birth to them
and with which we have the responsibility, here and now to fight, also
disappear.

Every day, women are abused and raped. Incidents that come to light are
few and far between, both because of the prejudice, mistrust and sexism
that victims will experience, and because of the dependent family and
economic context in which "domestic violence" against women takes place
of the working class. Both of these factors, namely sexism on the one
hand and the class position of the majority of women on the other,
reinforce these everyday phenomena. Women do not speak up because they
will receive ridicule and questioning. Women do not speak, because
leaving the house-prison their children will not have anything to eat
and they themselves will be judged because "they did not leave early"
and they will also be held accountable "for their choices".

WHAT CAN WE DO;

Our non-negotiable position on the side of abused women, our solidarity
social shield against the bastards and the rotten values, perceptions
and mindsets that give birth to them is our permanent, moral and social
obligation. By changing the social framework of values, contributing to
the eradication of patriarchal values and fighting the class,
authoritarian and hierarchical structure of society, we form those
conditions that will allow the universal, female and total emancipation
from every bond of inequality and inequality and from every domineering
phenomenon leading, even to death, as in femicides.

The key issue is to understand that we will achieve this ourselves. Not
the state and its institutions, not the urban system, not the factors
that impoverish us, materially, spiritually and morally.

WHEN CHIRPAS MET CHRYSOCHOIDI

All these years, existing social phenomena ignite a debate in public
life around "security" and the fight against "crime". Often this debate
is fueled by television and online media and the press, whenever
governments want to increase repression, tighten criminal codes and
target social and political groups. Why don't we laugh: the struggling
and the downtrodden are targeted.

What is never said is that the police forces are constantly increasing
while at the same time the phenomena you are supposed to be called to
suppress are also increasing. How is this possible? Let's look at a
recent example.

The femicide of our fellow citizen outside the A.T. Agios Anargyron
happened just a few weeks after the neo-democratic summit meeting
between the mayor of the Tsirba region and the minister of repression
Chrysochoidis. Through this meeting, the Chirba gang that runs the
municipality and has turned it into a local fiefdom of the existing
government, triumphed over the upgrading of the police presence in the
area and the establishment of new units, such as the motorized state
battalion of torturers and thugs. "ACTION". The latter very quickly left
their mark on the neighborhood: checks on young people, thugging and
magic rides to terrorize unsuspecting passers-by, to their sadistic
satisfaction.

That's what they know how to do, that's what they do. After all, we are
talking about a unit that has been established to attack protesters,
therefore to protect the powerful and not, of course, the "citizens".

What this example makes us wiser, that is obvious. That contrary to what
is said in the channels and the press and contrary to the lies about
"understaffed" police departments, the security forces are the only ones
that are constantly opening "new jobs". That is to say, while the
working class lives with 3.60 and while the social majority groans and
is drained of precision, this reality finds no correspondence as far as
the cops are concerned. Why; But why when the working class and the
social majority take to the streets, who will protect the political
system, the state and the big players of capital if not the police?

It also makes us wiser because it shows us in action the priorities of
the uniformed mercenary guards of state and capital. Let's consider a
hypothetical example. If instead of Sunday, April 1, there was a
different address: a signal was sent to A.T. that a group of anarchists
is marching nearby. How many police units would have been mobilized?
Certainly their number would not fit in 1, but not even in 10 taxis.

NO WELL WE DON'T WANT MORE POLICE

Just as in Agios Anargyros the increase in police presence did not
prevent a murder in front of the police, so the role of the police in
general is very specific: that of protecting the politically and
economically powerful. Asking the state through the police to combat
phenomena created by its own policies is like asking the wolf to guard
the sheep. By asking for more police we don't stop the next femicide: we
increase the chances of a dead protester, of a tortured woman who was
considered a "suspect", of a young person who breached a police roadblock.

THE SOCIAL IMPACT OF FEMACIDE

We have no doubt that upon hearing the "news" the vast majority of
people were plunged into rage and grief. It is not in our society, "all
black", as they try to convince us so that we are trapped in the despair
of our "me" and "party". How hypocritical is that? They tell us to
"look" at your party, because "everyone is looking at their party", that
is, become one of them! Nevertheless, we insist: values have not been
lost from all people. But we also have to note: sadness and anger are
emotions, and emotions don't change the world, they don't solve
problems, they won't prevent the next femicide, they won't help us
recognize what the real role of the police is. By crying or cursing we
end up just passive spectators, not agents of change. What is at stake
is to be "exposed" by our party, which can only classify us as depressed
and self-centered beings. As isolated and powerless to change the world,
we end up looking for escape routes in the buffoons, the psychologists,
the fans and every relaxing fad they place on us. And all this, while
all around us women are being murdered, workers are being killed in the
workplaces, the whole society and us together, is being crushed,
squeezed out, dominated by the few and powerful who have the wealth and
power in their hands and are the only ones won.

NOTHING WON BY AN OUTstretched PALM. EVERYTHING IS WON WITH A RAISED FIST

Solidarity, collectivization, social empathy. One next to the other and
not each apart. Races, claims, battles. Organization for revolutionary
overthrow. In these proposals are the solutions and the ways out. The
response to these proposals will determine what kind of world we will
live in. The dilemmas they pose are practical and tangible. By putting
them into practice, by making them flesh of our flesh, by making them a
personal and collective matter, by making them a responsibility and an
obligation, then and only then, we will look to the future with
optimism. Then, we will really have nothing and no one to fear.
Governments will fall, states will be overthrown, systems will collapse,
cannibalistic values will be consigned to the dustbin of history.

Then and only then, we will be equal among equals, free among free. In a
society that will not accommodate gender violence and the violence of
the authorities, that will not accommodate femicides and state crimes.
