Dear friends, We are reaching out with an urgent and heartfelt plea to support Virginie Dhiab, founder of “Un Cœur sur Pattes Mahdia,” and the hundreds of animals she has saved in Mahdia, Tunisia. The shelter is facing a critical situation, and without immediate help, many animals may not survive the harsh winter. Kindly contribute by making a donation today! Virginie has been living in Tunisia for six years, and her journey began when she started feeding distressed cats and dogs on the streets of Mahdia. Witnessing their suffering and agony, she took it upon herself to care for and adopt them. Her apartment soon filled with dozens of cats and two puppies. Her mission expanded further when she met Elena, a Russian woman who had cared for around a hundred cats. When Elena fell ill and had to return to Russia, she left Virginie with around sixty unsterilized cats. Virginie, using her personal resources, rented land to establish a refuge. Today, the shelter provides sanctuary for over 200 animals, offering them a safe and dignified life where they are fed, cared for, and cherished. The situation is especially difficult in Tunisia, where animals are not respected, and there are no laws protecting them. The Tunisian state even allows the barbaric slaughter of stray dogs, and videos of this brutality circulate online. The streets are stained with the blood of countless dogs, poisoned cats, and injured animals left to suffer. Among them are the disabled, whose pain knows no bounds. Virginie’s shelter is their only refuge, providing a peaceful life they could not find elsewhere. Faced with these painful realities, Virginie was inspired to act, laying the foundation for an association dedicated to the welfare of animals. But now, as winter approaches, she is in desperate need of 200 blankets to keep these animals warm. Without proper shelter, the animals, especially those who are disabled or in recovery, will not survive the freezing temperatures.
