Good morning,

Today, in Strasbourg, MEPs will debate the challenges facing Europe's car industry, following last week's vote by EU countries in favour of the Commission's decision to impose tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles – don’t miss Judith Arnal’s column coming out later today on why Europe must do its utmost to protect one of the bloc’s most important economic sectors.

Ahead of next week's European Council meeting, MEPs will outline their priorities. The summit of EU leaders is expected to focus on migration and foreign affairs, with Russia's war in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East taking centre stage.

Meanwhile, in Luxembourg, EU finance ministers are expected to review the EU tax heavens blacklist and approve conclusions on climate finance ahead of COP29.
