To break through the walls of silence and isolation and send a strong
message of support to political prisoners in Turkey, the KurdishDemocratic Center in France (CDKF) is organizing a major solidarity
concert. ---- Turkey currently has tens of thousands of political
prisoners, the majority of whom are Kurdish opponents. This figure adds
to the gigantic prison population in Turkish prisons. With 350,000
people behind bars, Turkey has the highest incarceration rate of the 47
member countries of the Council of Europe.
The abuse of anti-terrorist legislation by a justice system under the
orders of the Turkish Islamo-nationalist power allows the entire
opposition in the country to be taken hostage: elected officials,
political and community activists, human rights defenders, journalists,
writers, academics, artists, lawyers... Anything goes to ensure that the
authoritarian and fascist frenzy of the Erdogan regime does not
encounter any obstacles.
Human rights organizations denounce the systematic practice of torture
and ill-treatment in Turkish prisons, particularly against prisoners of
conscience.
Sick prisoners do not receive adequate treatment. Even when they are in
the last stage of their illness, the Turkish Institution of Forensic
Medicine (ATK) refuses to release them, citing "security" reasons. Many
sick prisoners have died in detention in recent years due to lack of
medical treatment.
Every year, hundreds of political prisoners are deprived of their right
to parole because they refuse to repent.
The conditions of detention on the prison island of Imrali are a regime
specially designed for Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan, who has been held
in solitary confinement for over twenty-five years. March 25, 2021, was
the date of the last contact with Mr. Öcalan. Since then, the Kurdish
leader and his three fellow detainees have not given any sign of life.
This "incommunicado detention," a form of severe and continuous torture,
raises deep concerns about the safety and health of the Imrali
prisoners. Turkey's treatment of the man whom millions of people
consider to be their legitimate representative closes the door to any
possibility of a political resolution of the Kurdish question, in favor
of a genocidal war that benefits from the complicit silence of
international powers.
To break through the walls of silence and isolation and send a strong
message of support to political prisoners, the Kurdish Democratic Center
in France (CDKF) invites you to participate in a
