WORLD WORLDWIDE US USA - New York NY - New York City NYC - THE CITY - At Comic Con, NYC was the main character
Dear New Yorkers,
These days, cosplayers, gamers and generalist geeks have their pick of gathering spaces nationwide.
But in terms of attendance, the New York Comic Con — which took place from last Thursday to Sunday at the Javits Center — is the biggest in North America. Those who say it’s the best have one main reason why:
Because it’s in New York. Obviously.
“The most iconic comics take place in New York,” said Kailey Carpenter, who came dressed as an original character called Miss MCU. “There’s so much life and fun and villains and everything!”
Inside the convention hall, attendees can be who they are. Many of them feel that in New York, they can do that outside of the hall, as well.
It feels like summer again today. Bright and sunny, with highs around 80 degrees.

Mayor Eric Adams is fighting a federal bribery charge by arguing there wasn’t any quid-pro-quo between him and Turkish officials over the expedited opening of the Turkish consulate building. In court last Friday, federal prosecutors pushed back on that forcefully — pointing to a key exchange in which Adams said “I know” after an advisor relayed a message that it was “his turn” to support Turkey.
For the first time in four years, New York City has seen a small decline in overdose deaths, reports Healthbeat. The decline, a 1% decrease, was reported last week by the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. City officials characterized it as slight but promising. And, provisional data from 2024 indicates a continued downward trend.
