The distributors of e-food and wolt have declared a 48-hour strike for
November 1 and 2. Their requests include:
* Full employment and insurance rights for fleet distributors
* Direct recruitment at wolt
* Increase in freelancer fees
* Removal of 'dynamic' model
* Minimum hourly pay
* Work accident coverage
* Health and safety measures
* Free personal protective equipment
* Return of the guarantee
It is imperative to repeat the victorious struggles of e-food
distributors in 2021 when there were dynamic strikes and mobilizations
as well as great solidarity from society when thousands of people
deleted the app.
For decades distributors have been one of the most dangerous and
difficult professions. They work in difficult weather conditions with
the heat, rain and cold making their daily working life very difficult.
They also have in their ranks dozens of deaths from accidents as a
result of the intensification of their work and insufficient safety
measures. Specifically, since 2017, we have had 78 (!) dead
distributors, that is, 78 unpunished employer crimes. Essentially the
distributors were often forced to work with unsuitable vehicles or
burdened with the cost of their maintenance.
These companies are examples of a new 'imaginative innovation' of
capitalism: the gig economy (or sharing economy, in Greek) like Uber,
Lyft and Deliveroo. The characteristic of these companies is that they
basically provide an intermediate service platform with which the
customer communicates and everyone who works is considered external
partners. Essentially, dependent wage labor is hidden in this way. Thus,
companies avoid paying insurance contributions, benefits and providing
equipment and means of protection. Also, this type of 'flexible' work
effectively bypasses the acquired 8 hours by forcing workers to be
available for many hours of the day so that they can complete a decent
daily wage as the intervals between orders can be long.
A few weeks ago, the Greek government, in yet another move of class
warfare, decided to tax the tips given electronically (through the
applications of these companies), i.e. the 20 and 30 minutes that the
rest of the workers give to the distributors in recognition of the
difficulty and danger of their work . While subsidizing capital
continues, yet another attack on workers' meager incomes is being promoted.
At the same time, it is important to add that in recent years many
attacks on immigrant distributors have been reported. In yet another
issue we see the real role of fascism which is none other than the
division of the class struggle.
In the face of all this, we know that the fight we have to fight is
multifaceted and difficult. In the face of poverty and destitution,
precision, impoverishment, the working middle ages and unemployment, we
must organize class solidarity, reorganize the collective formations of
the working class, put forward the interests and needs of our class and
set the collective claim us. Workers, unemployed, pensioners, excluded,
natives and immigrants together, we must raise our heads together,
organize, fight together and attack the state and capital.
WE SUPPORT THE 48-HOUR STRIKE OF E-FOOD AND WOLT DISTRIBUTORS ON
