Dear New Yorkers
Housing vouchers are a central tool in the city’s efforts to solve the housing crisis.
But for many New Yorkers, the problem isn’t applying for assistance, but what comes next: finding an apartment, securing the voucher and guarding against discrimination by landlords.
We won’t sugarcoat it: this process is long and challenging. Advocates, tenants and real estate agents alike describe the process of acquiring CityFHEPS as frustrating and demoralizing.
But, at the end of the journey, many New Yorkers are able to find housing at a genuinely affordable price point.
Weather 🌤
Overnight showers and morning clouds give way to a mostly clear and sunny day. High temperatures reach the mid-to-upper 60s.
MTA 🚇
Switch replacement work in the mornings may slow down A, C, B, and D trains near 59th Street-Columbus Circle this week, and more. Find all the MTA’s planned changes and the latest delays here.
Alternate side parking 🚙
It’s suspended today, Nov. 11, for Veterans Day.
By the way
Over the weekend the Prospect Park fire, and others in and around the city, worsened air quality. Mayor Eric Adams temporarily banned grilling in public parks. And the city remains under a drought watch
Our Other Top Stories
  • On Friday, state Attorney General Letitia James’ office said that after a four-year review, it would not bring criminal charges against former NYPD officer Ceasar Munoz, who killed a 20-year-old girl after speeding through a red light while responding to an emergency. Munoz was forced to retire from the department last year; a report by the Office of Special investigations said it could not prove beyond reasonable doubt that Munoz had committed a crime.
