On October 11 and 12 in Palermo and Catania there were two initiatives
that highlighted the Kurdish cause and its militants ---- In Palermo forthe day of international mobilization for the freedom of Ocalan, the No
War Assembly and Palermo Solidale con il Popolo Kurdo organized a public
meeting at the Andrea Ballarò laboratory, on Kurdistan and the World
War. Interesting debate followed by an attentive and large audience.
---- The discussion touched on various aspects, from the kidnapping and
arrest of Apo Ocalan carried out by the Turkish secret service on
February 15, 1999 in Nairobi, Kenya, to the role of Italy in his
capture, with the then Prime Minister Massimo D'Alema. All explained
very well by Renato Franzitta.
Virginia Dessy, from Palermo Solidale con il Popolo Kurdo, spoke about
the fundamental and decisive role of Women in Democratic Confederalism
and in the Revolution, which day after day are building a new society in
the liberated areas of Syria and Northern Iraq, with significant
influences in the Kurdish areas of Turkey.
Salvo Vaccaro, from the University of Palermo, examined the current
geopolitical situation, highlighting how the conflicts that have
exploded in Ukraine and the Middle East are the prelude to a Global War.
The shift in the balance of the planet from the West to the East, and in
particular in China and India, and the difficulties of the US political
system, make us understand that the world balance has changed and that
changes in hegemony have never occurred peacefully.
Finally, the intervention of the undersigned on behalf of the No War
Assembly, which reiterated the distance from Political Islam and the
support for Ukrainian and Russian deserters, and the closeness to the
Israeli Refusniks, the only sincere supporters of the Palestinians.
The initiative, in addition to being dedicated to Apo, was dedicated to
those who are held in Italian prisons, such as Maysoon Majid, later
released; we now demand the release of Marjan Jamali, Heval Talip and
the supportive Luigi Spera.
The evening ended with the excellent songs of Bruna Perraro, at the
forefront of the campaign for the release of Turkish prisoners, starting
with the singer-songwriter Nudem Durak, buried after 34 years in prison.
Two interesting films followed on the Kurdish situation and the ongoing
war of the fascist Erdogan.
On October 12, we gathered in Catania in front of the Piazza Lanza
prison to express our solidarity with the Kurdish Comrade Heval Talip,
detained since May 22, whose imprisonment is the product of an infamous
set-up by the police and the judiciary. We have known our comrade for a
long time and we know perfectly well that he is innocent. He has always
been at the forefront of the anti-racist mobilizations in Calabria and
Sicily.
The Free Heval Talip Network is fighting for his release; the
demonstration under the prison reaffirmed the will to fight against
racism and the ongoing wars.
Other initiatives await us until Talip is freed.
