And Donald Trump has nominated Chris Wright, the CEO of Liberty Energy — a company deeply entrenched in the destructive practice of fracking — to lead the DOE in his upcoming administration.
Chris Wright stands in sharp opposition to clean energy and a green future. As the head of a fracking company, his career has been centered on extracting fossil fuels, a practice that devastates ecosystems, pollutes drinking water, and contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions — and therefore to climate change.
Wright has publicly dismissed urgent calls to transition away from fossil fuels, calling such efforts "absurd" and advocating for more reliance on oil and gas. Meanwhile, continued fossil fuel use is causing catastrophic consequences. Climate change continues to worsen, with heat waves, wildfires, extreme weather, and droughts intensifying each year.
We are running out of time to defeat and reverse climate change, and we cannot afford four years of environmental backsliding.
