While Israel has been tightening its blockade of Gaza for several weeks
and its use of starvation for genocidal purposes, and while bombscontinue to rain down, Netanyahu announced last Monday that he wanted to
"take control" of the area. On Sunday, May 18, he launched a massive
ground operation called "Gideon's Chariot," a final offensive to empty
Gaza of all Palestinian life. While Israel has been tightening its
blockade of Gaza for several weeks and its use of starvation for
genocidal purposes, and while bombs continue to rain down, Netanyahu
announced last Monday that he wanted to "take control" of the area. On
Sunday, May 18, he launched a massive ground operation called "Gideon's
Chariot," a final offensive to empty Gaza of all Palestinian life.
For months, Israel's genocidal war on the Palestinian territory of Gaza,
coupled with its colonial offensive in the West Bank, has met with no
real protest from the major imperialist powers. Recently, while
ostensibly expressing alarm at the use of famine, which has in reality
been going on for a very long time, Western governments have all
participated, directly and indirectly, in supporting this genocide
through arms sales, diplomatic and political "unconditional support,"
and refusal to implement the arrest warrants issued by the International
Criminal Court. They will have to answer for this before history.
France is not far behind: massive arms sales from Thales to Israel, the
dissolution of Urgence Palestine requested by the Minister of the
Interior, the criminalization of support for the Palestinian people,
legal and police harassment of organizations involved in the movement,
the continued imprisonment of George Abdallah, and, most recently,
Macron's shameful inability to utter the term "genocide" during his
media parade on May 13th... The presence of Israel and its arms
companies at the Paris Air Show from June 16th to 22nd shows that
France's apparent change of rhetoric is nothing more than smoke and
mirrors: Macron may talk about a "humanitarian tragedy" in Gaza, but his
words are not followed by any action capable of preventing the genocide.
As we commemorated the 77th anniversary of the Nakba on May 15, the
expulsion of 700,000 to 800,000 Palestinians by the Zionist state
following a planned ethnic cleansing, the catastrophe has never ended.
The ongoing genocide in Gaza, and the deportation plan implemented by
the State of Israel, is a new phase in the crimes of Zionism. The urgent
need is not only for a ceasefire; it is for a genuine process of
decolonization, one that will put an end, once and for all, to the long
Nakba of the Palestinian people.
Our role, from France, is to fight tirelessly against the complicity of
our own imperialism and for the political and diplomatic isolation of
Israel. The fight against arms appears to be a priority, which we call
for strengthening by investing in all the actions of the Stop Arming
Israel campaign and the BDS campaign, and more generally in all
initiatives of solidarity with the Palestinian people.
Palestine will live, Palestine will win!
