WORLD WORLDWIDE EUROPE ITALY SICILY - news journal UPDATE - (en) Italy, Sicilia Libertaria #459: CCU MANCIA FA MUDDICHI: UPDATES ON THE REPRESSION AGAINST THE NOMUOS MOVEMENT (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

While the war on the external front continues, with continuous

accelerations between the very expensive plan for European rearmament
(very expensive not only economically but also socially), vain
ceasefires in the face of a genocide whose roots are more than 70 years
old and war crimes committed daily both in Palestine and in Ukraine, the
war on the internal front does not stop either. Indeed, it also runs
very fast, blunting its weapons with new laws and becoming increasingly
aggressive. ---- We are writing these lines a few days after Mattarella
signed the former DDL 1660, which became a decree, and recently approved
with a last-ditch effort by the current government; we are writing these
lines a few days after twenty people were notified of complaints for the
blockade of the port of Genoa on June 25, 2024, a day in which for the
first time all three gates of the port were blocked simultaneously by a
very large mobilization against war and genocide; we are writing these
lines a few days after the last national demonstration for Palestine
that took place in Milan on April 12, 2025, in which a procession of 50
thousand people was brutally charged and broken up by the police and for
which, at the moment, six people have been reported.

It is now clear that the internal and external fronts of the war are
intertwined, and in this intertwining our struggle, our biographies, are
not exempt. Before the start of the winter camp (at the end of December
2024 and the beginning of January 2025), six comrades, both male and
female, were reached by as many expulsion orders from the territory of
Niscemi[insert press release link], the center of our political action
for over ten years now due to the presence of the MUOS, a war
infrastructure of the American navy that allows global communications of
the American defense, widely used both on the Palestinian and Ukrainian
fronts nowadays. Expulsion orders that arrived after the summer camp,
when we responded to the appeal of the Palestinian people by attacking
that base of death with more than fifty cuts to the network[insert press
release link], and that arrived shortly before the start of the winter
camp, with a clear attempt to intimidate participation on the one hand,
and to break the resistance against the MUOS, the American military
occupation and the imperialist war on the other. The result of this
operation was a very successful camp, with about a hundred people
staying at the camp, from different cities in Sicily and many cities in
Italy, which maintained its program and activities, allowing us to
establish relationships and discussions with many people who came to
Niscemi for the first time. A camp that was followed in a very marked
way by the police forces, both in the initiatives around the base and in
the initiatives organized in the town, with a deployment of police
forces that we are sadly used to. This did not prevent us in any way
from walking around the base, reporting the systematic theft of water
from the military base to a territory that suffers from a constant
shortage of water supplies; the environmental impact of the base on the
natural reserve in which it is located like a metastasis that infects
it; of the subservience of the US Navy towards the local mafia bosses
(when they spare the base's land from being fenced off) and of the
presumption towards the population of Niscemi (when they instead include
a water well in the base's networks); of the centrality of that military
base in the military communications systems, reiterating that the war is
waged at home, with all the destruction it sows in various parts of the
world, and with all the brutality it manifests in the territories it
uses to wage this war. We have done everything we had to, reiterating as
one of the slogans we like to shout at our demonstrations that "paper is
just paper, paper will burn!".

The state's revenge for this outrage was not long in coming and today we
return to writing about the repression of our movement, of the comrades
with whom we walk together. In fact, once the winter camp was over, some
comrades were reported for the events of August 2024, an unauthorized
demonstration and damage to the networks of a military base which, they
continue to claim, operates a public service. Furthermore, a comrade was
notified of violations of the expulsion order by the municipality of
Niscemi, persecuting her to her home and following her to other cities,
with an arrogance and bullying that they did not allow themselves to
have when, in a hundred, we were camped next to the military base.
Finally, an oral warning was notified, a measure that the police
commissioner can issue against people deemed "socially dangerous", a
possible antechamber before the request for special surveillance.

We write these lines in full awareness of the historical moment in which
we live, a clearly difficult moment, in which we know that we are not
the only ones on the front line against war, American imperialism,
Zionism, and the militarization of the territories. If we do this, it is
not to arouse pity or generate a debate, more similar to a whine, about
repression: in our parts we say that "cu mancia fa muddichi" (he who
eats makes crumbs), and we have already traveled enough road together
behind us to know that every action of ours corresponds to a repressive
reaction from the state. If we write these lines, it is to generate
another of the reactions, dearest to us, that is, solidarity.

We are addressing the Sicilian comrades that we have met in Niscemi over
the years and that we continue to meet at the demonstrations in front of
the Leonardo death factory in Palermo, at the regional assemblies
against repression, at the demonstrations against the Bridge over the
Strait, and on many other occasions: there are roads that divide, in the
awareness that the terrain of solidarity is one of those where we can
always meet again. We turn to the comrades who, even just once, have
come to Niscemi to one of our camps, or who are part of a struggle
similar to ours in places other than Sicily: even if geographically
distant, we are close to those movements that oppose genocide, war
logistics, military bases, from south to north; we are certain that this
closeness and solidarity is not one-way.

In a European context of rearmament, we relaunch with the need to build
struggles, starting from our communities and our territories, but also
build widespread solidarity, which makes itself felt in the ways and
times of each and every one, but without missing the warmth it generates.

Against MUOS, Yankee imperialism, the war of capital and our militarized
land. Until victory.
