WORLD WORLDWIDE SOUTH AMERICA BRASIL BRAZIL - news journal UPDATE - (en) Brazil, OSL: PUC-SP Threatens to Repress Students in Struggle with Military Police (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

In recent days, PUC-SP has begun an offensive of repression against

students who are in struggle, occupying and stopping classes against the
precariousness of the university and the elitism of education. Instead
of seeking to meet the legitimate demands of students, the rectorate has
threatened the pickets and student occupation with police force, and has
managed to have the possession reinstated, which can be carried out at
any time. ---- Throughout Brazil, students have proposed a debate on
access and permanence in university, calling for the expansion of
effective and real quota and permanence policies. One of the major
expressions of this struggle has been the demand for quotas for trans
people, leading to actions and demonstrations, such as the occupations
at several universities.

At PUC-SP, it is no different, and the mobilization that took place last
week for actions by the institution against cases of racism at the
university has taken on new dimensions and puts the entire situation of
the student sector on the table.

The context that unites students in this mobilization relates the
university's resistance to expanding access and the ceiling that fell
this week, which could have affected students, staff, and professors.
This is the position of guaranteeing privileges taken by a reactionary
university bureaucracy, which wants to maintain its position of control
of the political and ideological domain, making the space and permanence
policies precarious and maintaining racism and exclusion on a daily basis.

Now that the students are reacting, the bureaucracy is showing its
option for violence, initiating a process of repossession without even
attempting to engage in dialogue, with the possibility of the police
entering the university building, something that has not happened since
the military dictatorship. The direct persecution of the students who
are leading this resistance is evident, especially the black movement,
which suffers from the institution's violence in two ways. There is also
an attempt to individualize those responsible in the lawsuit filed in
court, which is a resource to weaken the collective strength of the
mobilization, isolating students in order to hold them accountable.

PUC-SP wants to stifle the movement in order to maintain an elitist,
racist and commercialized university model, where many are excluded.
That is why we will continue to fight, with solidarity, resistance and
collective organization, against all forms of repression and exclusion.
Our full solidarity with the students in struggle!
