Since June 13, 2025, Israel has launched a massive air offensive against
Iranian nuclear sites and the leaders and scientists of the Islamic
Republic, also bombing civilians. Iran has responded to these attacks; a
war-like spiral is being set in motion, increasingly hitting the Iranian
people, who are abandoning major cities to seek safety. The reason given
is, of course, Iran's desire to develop a nuclear program, a well-known
leitmotif, particularly for the United States and Israel in the region.
With Israel in a period of relative diplomatic isolation amid its
genocidal war in Gaza, and also at a time when his government has just
risked a vote of no confidence, Netanyahu is invoking the laughable
refrain of "Israel's right to defend itself," hoping to force a
realignment of the planets and national unity behind him. Thus, he is
taking advantage of the weakening of Iranian power abroad (Hezbollah,
Iraqi militias) to play Washington's armed wing in the context of the
"negotiations" led by the United States on the Iranian nuclear issue.
The Israeli government would accept nothing less than the total
impossibility of a nuclear presence in Iran, even civilian, in order to
maintain exclusive technological and military supremacy in the region.
Trump is therefore now forced to position himself on direct
co-benevolence with Israel, while the rest of the West, including
France, although superficially positioning itself in favor of a
ceasefire, is giving him a barely concealed blank slate by validating
"Israel's right to defend itself."
The Libertarian Communist Union condemns the imperialist forces'
commitment to and support for this spiral of war. It reaffirms its
support for the Iranian people, who already suffer daily from Western
embargoes and the brutal authoritarianism of the Islamic Republic, and
who have not asked any imperialist power to "liberate" them under the bombs.
We call on our entire class and the anti-imperialist political, trade
union, and community forces in France and around the world to resist
this spiral of war, notably by preventing arms deliveries to Israel by
all means, and by supporting the Stop Arming Israel and BDS campaigns.
It is also important not to forget Israel's main victim, whom the
colonial state is trying to make us forget, and to continue to
strengthen the struggle in support of the Palestinian people.
Israeli power will not succeed where its Western sponsors before it
failed: colonial and imperialist wars come at a price. While oppressed
peoples pay dearly at first, the day will come when the oppressor will
see his domination routed by them.
Against imperialism and war, the strength of the people changes the world!
