Anonymous artists opened an autonomous art exhibition on the theme of
"Flight and Migration" on June 20th on the Passerelle pedestrian andbicycle bridge on the German-French border between Kehl and Strasbourg.
---- 14 images and an explanation in English, French, and German address
the themes of flight, migration, repression, Fortress Europe,
resistance, an open society, the shift to the right, resentment, and
anarchist perspectives. ---- Here is the explanation in full: ---- "No
border, no nation"
This utopia is becoming increasingly distant in these dark times. Around
the world, the freedom of movement of people seeking help is being
increasingly restricted. Refugees and immigrants are not only being
targeted in the distant United States under the autocratic ruler Trump.
No, even in the oh-so-borderless European Union, conservative and
right-wing forces and governments are forming an alliance of regression:
Returning to closed national borders, the human right to asylum is being
trampled upon, people fleeing war, persecution, poverty, and climate
catastrophe are being turned away at the borders or drowning in the
Mediterranean. People are forgetting what Europe looked like at the
beginning of the 20th century and the consequences that nationalism,
capitalism, racism, and anti-Semitism had for the world. World War II,
German fascism, and the Shoah were the pinnacle of this development and
must not be repeated.
We want to live in a world without borders and nations, where everyone
can move freely and settle wherever they want. We stand in solidarity
with all refugees and say: "Refugees welcome!" Still.
We chose this symbolic location, the footbridge in Kehl, which connects
two once-hostile countries - seemingly without borders - for our images
on the topic of "Flight and Migration" because, despite everything, it
is a place of hope: Things can get better for all of us if we build a
new world from the bottom up, in solidarity, free from domination, and
in which the equality of all people is not just lip service on paper,
but lived practice: Open borders for all!
No borders, no nation!
