May 15 marks 77 years since the Day of Catastrophe (Nakba) when over
750,000 Palestinians were expelled from their ancestral lands after thewar between the newly established state of Israel and 5 Arab states. The
6-Day War of 1967 pitted 3 Arab states against Israel. Israel defeated
and conquered both the West Bank (from Jordan) and Gaza (from Egypt).
After the war, Israel forbade Palestinians from returning to their homes
and forced them to live exclusively in the Gaza Strip or the West Bank
(or to take refuge as refugees).
In 1971, the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO, led by Yasser
Arafat) accepted (was forced to) the partition of the Palestinian
territory into Israel and Palestine (which would now consist only of the
West Bank and Gaza). In 1987, after the death of 4 citizens, the first
Intifada began, which ended with the Oslo Accords. With these
agreements, the minimal "Palestine" that had remained was further
reduced and the West Bank was divided into 3 zones, one of which was
controlled by the Palestinians, the other by Israel, and the third
jointly. At the same time, Jewish settlements were increasingly
expanding in Palestinian territory. In 2000, the second Intifada began,
leading to Israel's withdrawal from Gaza. Since 2007, Hamas has been in
power in Gaza. Since 2007, Israel has been bombing Gaza continuously,
with major operations in 2008-2009, 2012, 2014 and 2021.
On 7/10/2023, Hamas launched an attack on the occupied Israeli
territories. During the attack, approximately 1,300 Israelis were killed
(it remains unknown how many were soldiers and how many were civilians).
Targeting civilians is a practice that is not and will never be
acceptable to the world of the movement that speaks of life and peace.
Nevertheless, two points must be noted: 1) a huge range of "atrocities"
"committed by Hamas" were nothing more than fake news (as an example we
mention the "40 dead decapitated babies" and the "raped and murdered
young woman from Germany" who was found alive in a hospital in the Gaza
Strip), 2) we could not help but comment that the same "international
public opinion" that declared itself shocked by the deaths of civilians
in Israel has never felt the same horror at the executions, the arrests
without charges, the bombings of civilians, the white phosphorus bombs
and the daily violations of every concept of international legality and
humanity by the state of Israel for 70 years.
Since 7/10/2023, Israel, claiming to be "defending itself", has launched
an unprecedented, even for itself, operation of ethnic cleansing of the
Palestinian people. With hundreds of bombings (indicatively, we mention
that in just 5 days it dropped 6,000 bombs on the Gaza Strip - as many
as, to understand the proportion, the US dropped in Afghanistan in a
year, while Israel bombed the Gaza Strip with over 100,000 tons of
explosives in an area that does not exceed 360 square kilometers, a
force equivalent to more than 6 nuclear bombs). The atrocities in which
Israel engages are endless. Before the -short- ceasefire - it demanded
that 1.1 million civilians evacuate Northern Gaza in 24 hours, gave
ultimatums to hospitals to evacuate, repeatedly bombed convoys of
civilians evacuating Gaza from the supposed "safe passage", obstructed
the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, used white phosphorus bombs
extensively, bombed the Gaza hospital during which it murdered 500-1000
civilians in an instant, threw an unknown number of people into mass
graves found under the Nasser medical complex in Khan Yunis after the
withdrawal of the occupying Israeli troops, tortured civilians - a
practice that, along with illegal imprisonment without even being
addressed to you, without a lawyer are everyday practice of the Israeli
state, and it murdered members of humanitarian organizations, doctors
and journalists.
When the war was restarted by Israel after a brief ceasefire that itself
broke, the condition facing the Palestinians was already one of open and
undisguised genocide. Israel began bombing an already razed Gaza, while
the civilians had already returned. There were already no buildings to
bomb, and Israel turned Gaza into a "kill box" where the sky rains bombs
on the heads of civilians living in tents. Demonstration for the 77th
