THEand dramatic news reaching us from the Middle East, culminating in
the Israeli attack on Iran that constitutes the opening of a new warfront in the area, are the inevitable and expected consequence of an
"escalation" of proxy conflicts between the main imperialist powers, old
and new, an escalation further accelerated by the Russian aggression
against Ukraine that has definitively clarified what is at stake: the
control of the world market that has historically constituted the origin
and the end of the two previous imperialist world conflicts. But the
entire Iranian affair also sees the emergence of a sinister but
unprecedented aspect: for the first time since the end of the Second
World War, conventional weapons are being used, for now, to attack and
destroy civil and military nuclear installations, in the latter case Iran.
In such a context, which sees the dramatic reality of the balance of
power between the major powers take precedence, diplomacy is
marginalized and the international institutions themselves appear
impotent and ridiculed in the face of the crackling of weapons in
increasingly bloody and involving conflicts. This pushes towards a
progressive arms race, in the exclusive interest of the war industry,
now multinational in nature, and of the international finance that
supports it (just to give a rough idea, Leonardo's shares have grown
over 100% since the beginning of the year!); war is therefore confirmed
not only as a destructive force of the environment and life, but also
and above all as a creator of new capital and new balances of power
between powers.
The main directors of proxy wars, which involve over 50 conflicts around
the world, have never stopped fanning the flames of feuds raging between
national bourgeoisies fighting each other for local, religious or ethnic
interests.
They are the same imperialist powers that have armed and arm these
conflicts, providing them with the most deadly war technologies that are
used against civilian populations, alternating these destructions with
the old methods of extermination and genocide, starving, thirsting,
deporting and destroying schools and hospitals.
They are the same powers that dispense hypocritical messages of peace to
justify a significant resumption of armaments, undertaken through the
containment of public spending to the exclusive detriment of the living
conditions of the subaltern classes, who in Ukraine, Gaza, Syria,
Lebanon and lastly Iran are called upon to massacre each other for
interests that are not their own, as happens in all imperialist conflicts.
Patriotic chants are ringing across the world, militarism is resurgent
in schools and throughout society, where mainstream media is siding with
war, and dissent is harshly repressed.
"Here then the historic slogans of the anarchist movement "our homeland
is the whole world" and "against the war for the social revolution",
acquire an important perspective to relaunch the social conflict in the
workplace, in the study places and in the territories"
But wars mainly affect civilian populations and the young generations
are sent to slaughter; energy supplies are cut off and war after war,
massacre after massacre the prospect of a nuclear war becomes more and
more credible.
In this world context the demonstration of June 21 in Rome against war,
rearmament, genocide is certainly an important deadline to support but
the extreme proximity to the nuclear conflict requires a step further:
to oppose every nationalism artfully fueled by states, governments and
the bourgeoisies that support them, to seek in every way the
international unity of the proletariat starting from the battlefields
fomented by imperialism.
Here then the historic slogans of the anarchist movement " our homeland
is the whole world " and "against war for the social revolution "
acquire an important perspective to relaunch social conflict in the
workplace, in the places of study and in the territories, against the
interests of capital, against environmental devastation, to defend the
living conditions of the subaltern classes and their rights which are
attacked on a daily basis, for peace, for equality and freedom.
