🎷 Rain Outside, Swing Inside — New Passes, More Swing!

Salut à Toots ! On espère que le changement d’heure et la pluie ne vous empêchent pas de swinguer ! Avant de vous annoncer le programme de la semaine, on vous présente la nouveauté de cet automne : les pass et cartes cadeaux ! Cinq concerts à petit prix — 35 € pour les jeunes et 59 € pour les autres — soit respectivement 7 € et 11,8 € par concert. C’est donné ! Et pour jouer à Saint-Nicolas : offrez un bon à valoir du montant de votre choix à vos amis (ou à vos ennemis, s’ils détestent le jazz 😄). Cette semaine, donc : Ce soir, ouverture avec une jam all-stars liégeoise menée par le génial Pascal Mohy au piano, l’extraordinaire Sam Gerstmans à la contrebasse et l’international Antoine Pierre derrière les tambours ! Jeudi, après le piano bar assuré par le patron, le grand talent de la trompette Sébastien Colson réunit deux générations de musiciens autour d’un répertoire be-bop comme on les aime. Vendredi, place à un trio de jazz de chambre plein de poésie. Tom Bourgeois et Fil Caporali, auteurs de deux superbes albums en duo sous le nom Moanin’ Bird, seront rejoints par le délicat batteur hollandais Daniel Jonkers pour une soirée en douceur… qui se prolongera avec notre late jam, ouverte par le pianiste Simon Groppe. Samedi, on accueille le quartet de Matteo Pastorino, musicien qui a su offrir à la clarinette basse une place de choix dans le jazz contemporain. Pour présenter son nouvel album, il s’entoure du virtuose mondialement reconnu Dario Deidda à la basse électrique, de Domenico Sanna, l’un des pianistes italiens les plus acclamés, et de notre habitué, le superbe batteur Armando Luongo. La late jam sera lancée par Thomas Grimmonprez — parce que le jazz ne dort jamais ! Dimanche, Ben Sluijs et Pascal Mohy rendront hommage au mythique album de Cannonball Adderley et Bill Evans, Know What I Mean!? On clôturera la semaine avec des standards magnifiquement interprétés par un trio de rêve : Marek Patrman invite Robert Jukic et le génial Bram De Looze. Du beau, du bon, du swing ! Donderdag, na de piano bar verzorgd door de baas zelf, brengt trompettist Sébastien Colson twee generaties topmuzikanten samen rond een be-boprepertoire zoals we dat graag horen. Vrijdag staat er een kamerjazztrio vol poëzie op het programma. Tom Bourgeois en Fil Caporali, het duo achter twee prachtige albums onder de naam Moanin’ Bird, worden vergezeld door de verfijnde Nederlandse drummer Daniel Jonkers voor een avond vol zachtheid... gevolgd door onze late jam, geopend door pianist Simon Groppe. Friday, we invite you to a chamber jazz trio full of poetry. Tom Bourgeois and Fil Caporali, the duo behind two beautiful albums under the name Moanin’ Bird, will be joined by the subtle Dutch drummer Daniel Jonkers for an evening of softness... followed by our late jam, opened by pianist Simon Groppe. Saturday, we welcome Matteo Pastorino’s quartet — a musician who has given the bass clarinet a leading role in the landscape of contemporary jazz. To present his new album, he’s bringing along the world-renowned electric bass virtuoso Dario Deidda, the acclaimed Italian pianist Domenico Sanna, and our very own Armando Luongo on drums. The late jam will be led by Thomas Grimmonprez — because jazz never sleeps! Sunday, Ben Sluijs and Pascal Mohy pay tribute to the legendary album by Cannonball Adderley and Bill Evans: Know What I Mean!? We’ll wrap up the week with timeless standards performed by a dream trio: Marek Patrman invites Robert Jukic and the brilliant Bram De Looze. Good music, good vibes, pure swing!

The electro-acoustic bass of Dario Deidda (Rosenwinkel, Jerry Bergonzi…) supports the versatile pianist Domenico Sanna, with his impressive background, and the drums of one of today’s most sought-after musicians, Armando Luongo. Nostalgia in Grand Place : Know What I Mean - Tribute dimanche 16 novembre - 16:00 Pascal Mohy (p) ; Ben Sluijs (s) ; Sam Gerstmans (b) Natural musical partners, sharing a taste for beautifully constructed melodic lines and the intimate tone of chamber jazz, Pascal Mohy and Ben Sluijs come together here to pay tribute to two of their heroes. Although they both appeared on Kind of Blue, the best-selling jazz album of all time, one wouldn’t naturally link Cannonball Adderley’s straight ahead approach with Bill Evans’s almost romantic swing. And yet! The pianist joined the saxophonist on two recordings in 1958, and they reunited in 1962 for the legendary album Know What I Mean?. More info

Marek Patrman Invites - Standards Trio dimanche 16 novembre - 21:00 Marek Patrman (dr) ; Bram De Looze (p) ; Robert Jukic (b) Marek Patrman is one of the most discreet drummers on the Brussels jazz scene, yet every musician who crosses his path wonders why. Gifted with an instant connection to every soloist he accompanies, his drumming seems to nourish the improvisers’ dialogue with the mastery of a top chef adding just the right touch to transform a dish. A longtime member of the great Erik Vermeulen’s trio, he will tonight be joined by Belgium’s most talented pianist, Bram De Looze, and Slovenian bassist Robert Jukic, who has established himself as one of the most solid and dependable figures on the Belgian jazz scene since his arrival in the capital a few years ago.
