This is how George Orwell, in 1984, invites us to imagine the future.
For now, this boot is being polished, to make it acceptable... ---- Waris upon us, let's arm ourselves and go! This is more or less what we
hear in the capitalist media all the time. In a world shaken by a troop
of dictator-presidents playing tag, the narratives are changing, and
fast. These tyrants are sometimes even presented as models of success in
the columns of far-center newspapers, which envy their iron fist, freed
for good from the velvet glove that, until now, representative democracy
remained.
From this perspective, the army is practical. It's a breeding ground
for obedient proles, commanded by the bourgeoisie, which serves many
purposes. In France, they're no longer sent to shoot strikers like in
the 19th century, but they can be deployed to our former colonies, which
have become special collectivities or independent countries, to enforce
the decisions of the bosses' PR agents who govern us.
Anatole France (with a nickname like that, it's hard to accuse him of
treason, right?) spoke of the army as "the school of crime," and he also
said, "We think we're dying for our country, we're dying for
industrialists." It's never been truer.
Now, ads, TikTok videos, reinvented military service projects, soldiers
on seduction missions in schools all help make order, the country, and
obedience fashionable. The result is a country that behaves itself. Now,
pacifism, for billionaire TV, is a thing for cool, hippie boomers.
Have they made peace obsolete?
It is urgent for us anarchists to recall that the army is an institution
whose goal is to make workers kill each other to serve private
interests. We must reaffirm that it is the bourgeoisie's last bastion
against social uprisings and popular aspirations. That the bourgeoisie's
wet dreams of a khaki world are the opposite of what anarchists advocate
for the emancipation of women and men, with, on the contrary, blind
obedience as a habit, submission as an ethic, and alienation as a way of
life.
All this can only produce a planet ravaged by the grim reaper, but
tailor-made to serve the powerful.
The army, the people's executioner, at all times, in all places!
